Decaf Coffee

What is your favorite brand of decaf coffee and why? I am trying to switch from regular coffee to decaf and am having a hard time finding a brand that I like.

d) none of the above

best of luck finding one, i've never met one i liked.

Rusty914s 02-20-2014 07:37 PM

Why would you do that? 2 cups in the morning, like the good doctor suggested...

I like coffee. I have tried several different decaf brands and have never found one that I've liked. (I find myself drinking too much coffee sometimes and start dealing with headaches.)

A friend introduced me to Postum on a camping trip a few years ago; I found that I liked it better than any decaf coffee I had tried. YMMV.

There is no such thing. I do drink decaf in the morning. But sure like the taste of regular coffee. The caffeine doesn't bother or do anything to me. I just love the taste of a good cup of regular black coffee. I drink decaf in the afternoon all the way through the day. I am trying to not take in so much caffeine. Its bad for you, I think?

Decaf coffee

Pete's Decaf french roast and Starbuck's Decaf Verona roast are both good !

Are you guys serious? You can taste decaf vs. regular? I'd like to test you on that.

I am a caf guy all the way to 9 pm, no problem. Caffeine is good for you. Just don't overdo it.

Peets Major Dickason

I used to drink decafe. There are two sorts; chemical decafe which id more decafe but you are likely to die of cancer (joking here - don't sue me) and water extraction method decafe which is less decafe.

I made a staunch coffee addict friend a brew of the second type and he loved it then came back at a latter date and affectionately punch me in the arm for tricking him and he said he was well tricked. And he loved it. So drink what feels right and enjoy :)

I have found that for me, Peets is about the best decaf going, and I have tried a bunch. Either the Maj Dickasons or the French Roast.

Super fully leaded until noon.

Herbal teas trough the rest of the day.

I hate decaf.

I equate decaffeinated coffee to non-alcoholic beer. IMO why bother?

I use a Keurig and like the Donut House brand of decaff. I have not had real coffee for 15 years. Heart palpitations due to stress knocked me down from 4-5 cups of coffee a day to 2 decaffs.

I drink the half de-cafe Folgers. It might be good to start with this or a similar product to avoid the headache that comes from going cold turkey!

Dantilla 02-21-2014 10:02 AM

A friend has a couple local coffee shops with their own roaster. Their de-caff is quite good.

I asked him once why Starbucks de-caff is so horrid, yet his is almost indistinguishable from regular house blend.

Starbucks uses the water extraction method, which destroys flavor along with the caffiene.
He will only use the chemical method, to keep the quality up.

It's a marketing thing. Sounds good to say "we use water" instead of chemicals, but the end product is inferior.

I like Starbuck's decaf House Blend - it's not very strong but has nice flavor without any bitterness.

DECAF Major D's here. Great taste and no (reduced) caffeine. I've been told I'm hyper enough without adding caffeine ;)

You can mail order some from Peets directly or it may be available in your local supermarket.
