I have 2 offices, one about 38 miles away and the other a bit under half that. I have to split my time between them, spending more time lately at the one that is further away.

Commuting from the middle of the north NJ, northeast for the further away office and east for the closer one.

I got tired of the longer commute taking 1+ hours at "normal" time, so I now leave home between 4:30 and 5am. At that time the 37 mile commute takes a bit under 45 minutes. On the way home it takes 45 - 60 minutes, unless there is an accident or bad weather, then it can take MUCH longer.

(The few early hours at work allow me to respond more "real time" to the part of my company in Europe. and gives me some less hectic time early to actually get work done. Makes for a long day, though, since I still have to stay through at least normal working hours.)

For the closer office (17 miles), I still leave home very early, but not quite so early, and the drive takes 20 - 35 minutes in the morning and 30 - 60 minutes home.

I recently turned down a very attractive position in NYC because the commute would have been a killer - about 90 minutes to 2 hours each way (by mass transit - the quickest way). I can't really consider relocation at this time, and it wouldn't have helped that much anyway.

I've had longer commutes (in time, if not in distance) than I have now, and I found I just couldn't waste that much of my life.

I've been spoiled, too. For a brief times, I had jobs that were in the same town or in the next town over. 5 to 10 minute commutes. But that was too good to last, as the company "higher ups" decided to consolidate facilities and close that plant.

If I did it every day it would be two hours to work and probably three getting home. We used to live in Oakland but didn't want to send our kids to private school. Big$$$. So, we sold our house and got five acres in the Sierra foothills and built a 4200 sq. foot house with a 1000 sq.foot garage with a granny unit. Great place to raise the kids, except I missed most of it. Bought a condo in the city so I didn't have to commute every day. Also, my wife can get her city fix as she just never did adjust to small town life.

I like the idea of getting out of the city....I like the homes available and the lot sizes are incredible. My travel time to work stays the same (office is 20mins away from this town and 20mins away from my current house in town.) This will add 20mins to the G/F's commute but she seems ok with it (for now).
Any of you guys living a similar lifestyle? How far would you be willing to commute for the right house/yard?
Thanks

45 -50 minutes each way.
Worth every minute to come home to dream house and property every day.

After 4 years of working from home I'm back to the commute. We recently moved so it's a very tolerable 14 miles / 20 minutes each way door to door.

All the way.

I live a mile from the office, so I could walk if necessary. At one time I had a 30 minute commute. I never seemed to mind the drive in, but the drive home, after working all day, seemed twice as long as the morning drive.

My office is 62 miles each way, takes me an hour. 20 minutes to go 8 miles across town to get to the interstate, and the last 40 minutes the reaminder on the insterstate.

The airport is about an hour and 15 minutes away. I make that commute about as often as the office one.

If it is snowy I work from home. I also try and work from home once or twice a week if I don't travel.

For a number of years I had a very short 10 minute commute. I found I didn't have time to decompress and was still worked up if there was a work issue that was bothering me.

While not ideal, it could be worse.

Ah, that sucks awesomely.

I understand you can cycle across the I-5 bridge on a bike-only path, not that I've ever had any reason to. Have you tried that?

I cross the Lewis and Clark bridge in Longview, Wa. To far to ride a bike on dangerous roads, Plus 12 hour day added to what ever it takes to ride 62 miles a day=long day.

I live in south Orange County, but fly out of Miami, so my weekly one way commute is 55 miles to LAX, followed by a 2350 miles by air to MIA.

I go from my bedroom to my kitchen, about 40 feet. Oh wait, I'm retired.

My commute is 12 miles, about 25 minutes with traffic, 15 minutes if no traffic.
My previous commute in Albuquerque was 10 minutes with a beautiful scenery.
Before that, my commute in NJ was about 45 minutes, and it felt a bit long sometimes.

45 miles each way but my schedule keeps me at work for 24 hours so it is not "daily."
