Thanks Cashflyer.....something like that is what I was thinking but didn't know for sure....thanks again sir. SmileWavy

From CNN...

The search for Flight 370 wreckage has shifted 680 miles to the northeast based on a new "credible lead," says the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

Follow-up.

New evidence is data plane flew at a lower altitude ( ~12000 feet), faster than first anticipated at that altitude (~275 knots), and ran out of fuel sooner, putting the likely area about 680 miles northeast from where they've been. The search has abandoned the area searched this whole week.. All assets are moving to the new area.

This has turned into a first grade class science project, what a mess.

Tragically appropriate.

The Benny Hill theme song comes to mind for me.

This sentence (below) was in a CNN article this morning. To me it appears to be obviously a stupid statement given the news coverage we have seen and heard to date.

"Exactly what the plane had found was unclear, but if the finds turn out to be something other than plane debris, it would not be the first time."

I think they are getting closer. It's obvious to me that if you look at all of the data from all of the satellite pings, you can compare the doppler shift in the frequencies observed to that expected from a given course and speed and zero in on what it was. It may take many iterations but you'd eventually get there. The assumption there is that the plane flew in a sratight line, more or less, once it turned onto it's final heading. It's possible it could have flown in some random pattern, but not likely. I think what you are seeing is that they continue to refine their estimates of it's final position and we aren't getting all of the details about what they are calculating, and how.

Yup. How long will they continue pursuing every large piece of ocean garbage?

ckelly78z 03-28-2014 07:39 AM

Sooner or later they might find Amelia Earhardt if they keep searching.

I thought she crashed in the Pacific. :p

That's what the media wants you to think.
In reality, she was making a protest statement against Ireland, then got caught up in the 40s, and was blown somewhere off the coast of India. Or maybe Australia.

Either way, rest assured that MH340 crashed on a deserted island only a few meters away from her Lockheed, a sightseeing boat our of Hawaii, and a Thiloxian Battle Cruiser from Ceti Alpha 9. Also, Bigfoot and Elvis live on the same island.

Scott Douglas 03-28-2014 08:49 AM

Would that be the same island Jimmie Hoffa is vacationing on too?

OK, thanks for the update.

Is that the island where the Unicorns came from?

kach22i 03-28-2014 08:53 AM

Maybe they should pick up some of the ocean trash while they are out there.

Perhaps this will raise some awareness; out of sight, out of mind.

VINMAN 03-28-2014 08:55 AM

So, the search area where they had spotted 300 "objects" yesterday is being abandoned now because of a "hunch"??

This is beyond comical.

Vipergrün 03-28-2014 08:59 AM

If the plane crashed in the "new" area, wouldn't the currents, waves and winds carried if closer to where they had been looking? It has been 20 days.

CNN has re-defined the meaning of breaking news. Yawn.

What a joke.

The current chart I posted earlier shows it going east, between Australia and Antarctica.

Of course things vary greatly depending on the actual splash down spot. Could of also meandered north or south of original location - all dependent on micro-climate or weather at the time.

Hah! Just what I was thinking, too!

"Nope, that's not from the airplane we're looking for..." [tosses piece back into the ocean]
