I believe the US has far better, and far worse tech than most people think.

I wasn't a sonar tech in the navy, but that destroyer we have over there helping out is equipped with both a state of the art sonar up front and a tactical towed array sonar (TACTAS) that is deployed out the back on a very long length of cable. There might be a sub out there too.

That's a completely oxymoronic statement. Take it to PARF.

It seems that this has become a race to find the plane, and we have seen the results of the Chinese investigation.

You know what i wished the media would all just say we don't know until the plane is found. I have never seem so much bad reporting, journalism, and WAG's on something that probably resulted in a huge loss of life.
I'm sick of all the falsehoods....

Seriously? He's absolutes right. We have asking stuff you don't hear about, or seldom do. Then when the SHTF, that was the ancient tech we've been cobbling along for years.

If the plane flew East wouldn't the Navy base at Diego Garcia been able to track it's path?

My closest friend was an F-15 jockey. The data the radar and intelligence systems provides the pilot is right out of the future. Stunning and frightening at the same time.

any hds screenshots of wrecks? - The Hull Truth - Boating and Fishing Forum
This is what a $1,300 fishfinder could do two years ago. It's a newer type of sonar tech added to traditional style fishfinders. Not so useful for finding fish but neat for looking at structure. |

It should be noted that this tech works in hundreds of feet of depth....not ten thousand + feet such as found in the Indian Ocean.

I recall something my neighbor (Skunk Works employee) once said to me.
"Anything you can think of today as high tech.. the military has stuff 20-30 years beyond that.. "

The fact pattern reminds me of the Learjet crash that killed Payne Stewart.

Perhaps the target should be Fillmore, CA.
Nostatic is spot on. As a former FCCS in the navy and manager at CSEDS in Moorestown, NJ (that was the engineering development site for the Aegis combat system including the AN/SPY-1 radar), we have capabilities that would blow your mind and then in other areas, you would scratch your head.
