Yes you are so right Herr Oberst. I recall my first driving trip across Canada and the US starting from Toronto and going to Vancouver and back when I was 19 in my $200 1958 bug. Oh yes in February. The temp on the inside of the car was the same as outside - minus 20F. Ice scraper in one hand and steering wheel in the other.
My later third bug a 1972 had the gas heater. Sometimes it worked sometimes it did not. There was no temp control so when it worked there was lots of heat.
I wish I had pics of my old car experiences....... G
