Careful what you wish for. A street in my neighborhood had a similar issue...several people using it as a short-cut and driving too fast. The residents all got together and complained to the city relentlessly. Next thing you know, there are speed bumps all up & down the street. It deterred the speeders, but now the speed bumps have become a major PITA for those who live on the street and have to negotiate them every time they come & go.

Put it on youtube......list the local PDs phone number and name of the Sergeant.

I like this idea. Then share it on FB, twitter, and Reddit. If you can, borrow a radar/lidar gun and clock him. Be sure the license plate is visible. E-mail the video link to your local PD.

Or try the friendly neighbor approach. If the guy is a monumental douche he'll blow you all off and won't change his behavior until the ticket comes in the mail. He already doesntl't respect you or your neighbors, otherwise he would have kept it to 25 in the hood.

You don't ***** where you eat and don't cause problems where you live. Unless you're an ass.

I had a friend tell me they were able to get speed bumps installed on his street and the people they had put in the bumps for changed tactics, honking their horns every time they went over the bumps. Neighbors all agreed that was far worse, but they had no luck getting the bumps removed.

Moral of the story is do as suggested above: have a non-threatening chat.

Speed bumps slow down fire trucks big time.

Take video, then make a citizens arrest for stunting/unsafe driving, etc. Call the cops and tell them you are arresting him - they will come.

**** it. Slash his tires.

I think the next chance you get to chat with him to let him know how much of a car guy you are...you like his car and appreciate that he does as well. But let him know that his behavior is not acceptable and dangerous.

Take the high road. If he's an adult (mentally) he'll perhaps get the message.

Goodness gracious...it only takes 1 or 2 stop signs to get out of the neighborhood onto the main road, yes? He can run through the first 3 gears there.

yet another BAD idea, then the guy follows your wife and video tapes her speeding and arrests her, you really want to head down that road? talk nice or let the police handle it, if he doesn't listen to the chat, get every neighbor calling the pd every day complaining, don't be the lone voice in the wilderness you will be viewed as the trouble maker

Before you know it, you'll be painting your fence baby-poo yellow.

johnco 06-16-2014 11:36 AM

toss out a spike strip everytime he speeds by and he might get the message after a few sets of tires

What's your next suggestion? A tactical nuke?

atcjorg 06-16-2014 12:37 PM

make it the pd's problem, not yours, there is a trial going on right now in sd about a landscaping dispute resulting in a fatal shooting, people are stupid and unpredictable, if the sgt. doesn't give you satisfaction...he has a boss, keep climbing the chain of command until you get to the mayor then go to the media with video,,, or live with it

I feel your pain. I live at the bottom of a hill and my street curves a few houses up from me. As I'm backing out, I look to make sure nothing is coming. So many times my neighbors come down the hill and around the curve at 40-50mph right as I'm backing out. Then, THEY get mad that I've backed out and am in their way.

I did call the police on one woman who floored it and went around me in her Audi A4. Cops came out and then quizzed ME about how I felt about the speeds of the other cars that were coming and going on the street! Of course they were all crawling BECAUSE THERE WAS A POLICE CAR SITTING IN THE STREET!

Really bothered me that they were treating me like I was being unreasonable or overly sensitive instead of suggesting how to address the issue.

Good golly, No! This is all out suburbia warfare. We take no hostages, and this scofflaw menace must be taught a lesson. Withhold affection and TP his house. That's just the way we roll...

Joe Bob 06-16-2014 02:10 PM

Spray down the TP with water and poison ivy extract.....

I suggest a few burnouts and doughnuts in front of his house (never exceeding the speed limit of course).....

When he comes out to investigate, tell him you will amend your behavior when he amends his.

Perhaps this should be in green??

I had a guy like this move into a street I lived in. He nearly ran over my cat so I bailed him up in the car acting like I was throwing a fit trying to get his doors open to kill him. The guy really freaked out thinking I would get him. The next day I caught him walking to his car and told him what I would do if I ever saw him driving faster than a walking pace. Sure he probably complained to the police but it would have been his word against mine + the cops would have said "What were you doing speeding Son, and winding up the neighbours?"

beepbeep 06-17-2014 12:25 AM

We had similar issue (our street is a short-cut and everyone raced through it), so we installed speed-bumps and flower-boxes.
