modern archery equipment.

it's kinda amazing to me.

yesterday, got a hall pass from the boss when he cancelled my swing shift..(sorry to you bay area guys, with what we did to traffic)

i grabbed my wife, bow, and dog and off to the bow range. this was a new range i never go to. when i was done with my few shots and was packing to leave..(i kept my session short to avoid boring my wife)..i see a older guy shooting at some target waaaay over on the horizon.

i ask about yardage. "where he is standing, is 70..but if you stand here, it is a 100 yards"

100?!! okay..i wait until the guy gets done, and he sends his minion to fetch his arrows..this guy had a bad limp.

all clear. i let an arrow fly. the minion had binos and he calls a bulls. wtf? i jog over and get my arrow..yup..center. my wife asked if that was a fluke.. only one way to find out. just started shooting. i never really missed. mostly 8" groups..some tiny groups. super fun watching an arrow sail over to a target out at 100. you can count..1 Mississippi, two Mississippi, as the arrow flies.

man, that was fun!! all my friends want to meet me there to try now. i am not so sure i could do this with a rifle with open sights..standing. like with an old winchester 30-30 w iron sights..

bows sure have advanced.

Wow that's a fairly long distance for accurate archery shots. I have a 100yd gun shooting range at the back of my property, and I never thought an arrow could reach out that far.

There are couple of hot Korean ladies that do that long bow thing. I'd miss a barn, shooting from inside.

Well done Vash.

A friend built a similar rig to this for testing, adjusting and fine tuning. He swears by it

AND... WOW. These girls look fantastic.

Nice!

We have a range (outdoor) close to my house that I am going to join, it has almost a golf idea, 16 or so multi distance targets that you walk like a golf course. I think tad longest one is 75 yards.
I'll have to get a 5 position site over my current 3, but I still need more practice as I am still not consistent enough at 40 yards.

Archery contest in Sanjusangendo, Kyoto | Matsuri Times
Thousands of girls who enter their adulthood come to Kyoto to shoot two arrows along the back veranda of the temple famous for its 1000 Buddha statues.

Toh-shiya (Archery Contest) | Japan National Tourism Organization
This ceremony apparently dates back to the middle of the 12th Century. It is said that master archers were able to hit their targets across the 120-meter space between northern and southern ends of Sanjusangen-do Temple. In the Edo Period, a contest began based on the number of arrows hitting the target during the 24-hour period from 6 o'clock in the evening to 6 o'clock the next day. The greatest record so far achieved was by Wasa Daihachiro in 1688 when he successfully shot 8,132 arrows, achieving a hit ratio of an astounding 62%. On the pillars, you will find traces of samurai warriors' arrows which missed their target.

You are describing a Field Archery range. Back when I played this game we used to shoot a round once a month at one of these. Varied elevation and unmarked distances up to 80 yards. It was pretty challenging and at the time I was shooting 35lb bare bow (no sights). This was much closer to bow hunting than a standard target range.

GREAT bow!! i was a mathews guys. had to jump ship due to a sore shoulder. i found the Mathews cams too aggressive. to difficult to let down if a shot didnt present itself.

new bow time!! i went with an Elite Energy 35. first time trying a longer axle to axle rig. tad heavier, but super super stable. not super fast tho..more regular speed.

this thing shoots!! i can shoot unfletched arrows pretty accurately out to 20.

This is a bought one but I'm sure you could build something similar for not a lot of money.

This is interesting but is it worth building? Or how hard is it to re-string a bow without one?

I'm buying a bow press. They don't cost that much and pressing a bow is kinda scary. You need it to work on the strings.

That draw thing is a Hooter Shooter. There are plans on the internet on how to build one out of a ryobi carpenter stand.

Elite Energy 35
Vash, you are the 3rd person I've heard shooting this bow in the past week!! They seem to be the rage lately. Todays bow are getting shorter and shorter, hence, less forgiving. My all time favorite was a PSE Mach 5X, deflex riser, 42" axle to axle. Shooting out to 100 yards requires a steady grip. Nicely done!!!

Something to note with Japanese archery, notice the side of the bow the arrow is on? If they are righty, the arrow is usually on the left side of the riser, not the right. How will the "Archer's paradox" work the way they are shooting?
