Gin is like sucking on pine needles to me. I know it goes against gentleman's code but I generally stick with Bushmills Blackbush neat...even in the summer heat. Barring that I go Greyhound(Greygoose and Grapefruit).

  • Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.
  • Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V(Oh, that Santragian seawater! Oh, those Santragian fish!)
  • Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).
  • Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it, in honor of all those happy hikers who have died of pleasure in the Marshes of Fallia.
  • Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qalactin Hypermint extract, redolent of all the heavy odors of the dark Qalactin Zones, subtle, sweet, and mystic.
  • Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger. Watch it dissolve, spreading the fires of the Algolian Suns deep into the heart of the drink.
  • Sprinkle Zamphuor.
  • Add an olive.
  • Drink . . . but . . . very carefully . . .

Not as good as it sounds... You can taste the artificial flavor.

It's a dry Tanqueray martini if I'm drinking gin. On a special day I like to carefully make myself one to celebrate. The ritual of making a perfect martini is half the experience.

My hot summer drink is 1/3 vodka, 1/3 tonic water, 1/3 club soda, lime, lots of ice.

Right now I'm having a glass of chardonay and I just took the second half of an Ambien. It's 4:30 in the morning, I've been awake since 2 AM, tried 1/2 an Ambien, yoga, self hypnosis, etc to slow down my brain and get back to sleep with no luck. Maybe some wine will help. I hate these nights when I can't sleep.

My absolute favorite summer cocktail is the Mojito. I have a huge mint plant that started from an $8 plant I bought at the grocery store - on the 4th of July I had a party and pulled 150 leaves off of it for Mojitos, couldn't even tell it had been touched. If you'd like to know how I make perfect Mojitos, check out my youtube video here - how to make a perfect mojito - YouTube

Regarding gin and tonics, I've just started using Jack Rudy Tonic Syrup and a soda siphon to make them. I can't tell if it's really better or if it's the fun of using the soda siphon, but it is more fun!

I used to buy Hendricks but Sapphire has a better taste to value ratio in my mind. Will have to check out this Botanist stuff though.

If I could make a few suggestions...

Muddle the mint with a muddler so you really bruise the leaves. Squeeze the lime juice with a Mexican lime squeezer; half of a Persian lime is enough. Skip the syrup and use about a teaspoon of caster sugar, maybe a little more. 2 ounces of syrup is going to make it way too sweet. Cut the rum to about 1-1/2 to 2 ounces... try Shellback and see if you like it. Add a lot more ice.

For a better presentation, you can strain the mint leaves out when you pour the drink and add a sprig of mint for looks.

Mojito right now, but not as fancy. I do use a mint muddler and mint from my herb garden however.

Thanks, but I call it the "perfect" Mojito for a reason

I've experimented with this recipe a lot, and this is what I prefer - I like it sweet, and I like rum (I'll check out the rum you suggested, thanks!). But hey, to each their own - thanks for watching!

Yep, a nice G&T will do me just fine on hot summer afternoons.

Just an FYI, for the Tanqueray people, Albertsons (SoCal) has had handles on sale for $22.00. It's been going on for months but I'm stocking up now.

Hey, give it a try. The goal is something more balanced, with no single thing dominating.

The Shellback (silver) has a few interesting notes. Most people like it...
