Cleaning car windows--techniques?

No matter how I try I cannot get the insides of my car windows streak-free. What do you guys use and how? This is both for my fun cars and my DDs.

Vinegar-based cleaner (windex makes one) and newspaper or microfiber towels. Turn the towel frequently, damp cloth leaves streaks.

Just did this recently...I soaked a paper towel with Naphtha and wiped, let dry...followed by a paper towel soaked with alcohol, let dry...then used a generic window cleaner spray with paper towel.
Worked.

sprayaway and newspapers on windshields+ exterior, interior tint just a damp terrycloth towel.

Invisible Glass aerosol. Use a microfiber, last wipe with the dry side.

The newspaper thing works great... but who has newspaper anymore?

Don Ro 07-19-2014 10:01 AM

A hot tip from Amazon:
.
"dont use paper towels to clean widnows they put lotion in them ,that's why they come out streaked, use lint free cotton towel"

I have a (very) old can of "glass wax" in my garage... do they still make that stuff?

BE911SC 07-19-2014 10:12 AM

Thanks all! I'm going to check my LAPS and see if they have these two items.

Good old Gold Seal Glass Wax...still have two cans...problem is that it leaves a powder that needs to be cleaned-up.

"I think I may have tracked down a replacement for the product!

After doing a little digging, I discovered that after the company that made the original Gold Seal brand Glass Wax stopped producing it, they sold the formula to a company called TR Industries that is producing it under the name "No Streek" Glass Cleaner. The stuff is being sold in TrueValue and Ace hardware stores and comes in a white plastic bottle with a blue label. The polish is nolonger pink, but is now being formulated in a yellow color."

I'll bet it's the lotion in the paper towels that's streaking my glass.

Same here...must be.
Thanks for the thread...I learned something.

Side note: I grew up in North Dakota and the inventer of GW lived in Bismarck, ND and built a huge mansion on the highest hill in town. I guess he eventually sold the formula.

Looks like a VW window. Great idea.

speeder 07-19-2014 10:31 AM

Cool Hand Luke...who cares if the window streaks? :)
