This is a 1966 Triumph Saint. A Saint was a high end build Bonneville that a few police departments used back in the day. Please excuse the engine being partially covered by the flares

Found a great little CB 400F that I want to buy, but the owner (?) doesn't have a title. From what I read in a quick Google, there's no way to get a title in Wisconsin. Any Tips on how/where I can title and register?

First you should really, really want that bike. Then prepare to do one of these:

1. Do your best to make sure the bike is not stolen. Then make sure WI really has no means to retitle a vehicle. Most states will do what is called a "bonded title" you post a bond, get a conditional title, and if no one claims the vehicle after a certain period of time, you get a regular title. Vehicle can be registered and driven during that time.

2. Find a friend in Maine. Maine does not title vehicles older than 15 years. You "sell" the bike to someone in Maine who then registers the bike. They then sell it back to you. You take the bill of sale and the Maine registration and then you can get a title in your state. Double check to make sure your state will accept the Maine registration before you do this. Most do.

3. Use these guys: Lost Car Title, No Car Title at All, We Can Help! - Broadway Title Company Here is how it works. In Alabama you need only a bill of sale to transfer ownership. You sell your vehicle to the title company on paper. They in turn obtain an Alabama title and registration. Then they sell it back to you on paper, they send you back all the documents. Then all you do is transfer the title to your name and state. The whole thing takes about three weeks.

A bit of a cringe, if I could go back in time...

At the same time as the pic above. That would have been 1975. My best friend Michael had an old bike that was a bit weird but went OK. It was a Triton with the featherbed racing frame. We kind of thought shame it wasn't a real Triumph or a real Norton. argh... if I could go back in time and buy the bike and put it in a shed somewhere, maybe alongside my Triumph Saint.

It's really not worth the hassle. However, it can work. Untitled bikes are the beaters of the motorcycle world - you buy them dirt cheap as they're hard to sell, keep them running, sell just as cheap when you're done. If it's something you care about, plan to keep, want to restore and such you're better off buying a bike with a clear history.

Wow...some very cool bikes among the inmates! Just came across this one on a ramble through Craigslist. A very interesting 56 Triumph Thunderbird converted to Café in 1960. 45 years in storage...an interesting bike and story. No affiliation...just passing along an impressive opportunity if you have $10k to burn:

Wow very cool thread! Got all excited seeing the bikes they were my first love. Dig wayners TA 125 it was my first real race machine. This is a 1976 Yamaha 350 TZ production racer I have had forever. Was only raced a few times and and bone stock other than the Morris magnesium wheels. I like to keep the fairings off so the mechanics are visible. Enjoy!

Oh Boy........

The Tech3 guy had a TZ going into the container, along with the bike I sold him. along with 19 other 2 stroke bikes.
He found it in the PNW.

My first bike was a 1967 Honda CL 160. I think I drove it on the nearby trails almost as much as the street. Next was a 1976 Suzuki GT 380. Then I moved on to a Suzuki GS 1000, and then a 1980 GS 1100.
The Honda CL 160 and the GS 1000 were both stolen. Really miss them. Still have the GT 380, nephew has the Honda 400F.
I raced with AAMRR at Louden and Bridgehampton, 1982 with the GT 380. Couldn't compete with a 6 year old stock bike against the GPZ 550's and the Yamaha 2 strokes. Finished 9th out of 22 both times. 1983 I raced the GS 1100. Led start to finish in both races. A lot of the guys on sport bikes were upset that I took them on such an older heavy bike with stock suspension. Then I retired due to low income.
