I don't see the problem.

Me neither. You seem to have escaped the problem of being born Canadian.

Big misconception.

I pick-up all my stuff in New-York. In the last 5 years, I never ever paid any duty on anything. I do pay the sale tax (HST in Ontario) that I would have been charge if I bought the stuff on the Canadian side but since the stuff is a lot cheaper State side, I don't mind. Lots of time I got wave by and pay nothing.

Except for booze and cigarette procured the same day or over the limit, the only duty I'm aware of someone having paid is on car.

Now the biggest rip-off is the brokerage fees that UPS and FedEx charge to those that have stuff ship across the border, just highway robbery.

Check with your local DMV.
In VT. we can get an enhanced drivers license that allows travel to Canada.
My daughter has one. Only draw back is it takes 2 weeks to get one here.

Traveled to Canada in April had passports for everyone, when coming back to US asked the agent "What if we didn't have our passports?" They would research info on you to be sure you are who you are but as a US citizen you can never be denied entry back into the country. Just FYI... it was pretty cool info.

Boston Passport Agency
There's a quota on that. I have tried and fail, so I ended up at one of those 24 hour turn around passport places on Wilshire. I think those are the places Motion was talking about (they are usually in large cities around the US). it wasn't cheap. I think it was 380 bucks, but I needed it for an Alaskan trip and didn't realized it expired months prior. My wife is right, I am an idiot.

Passport was ready on Tuesday, picked it up yesterday. best $60 I spent in a while for faster processing.

At first, I thought it was very odd that I only had to give them my receipt, no photo ID. Then I realized they have my photo ID in front of them. Always the quick one I am.

I'll work out my travel times tomorrow, hoping to be in NY at noon, if I leave at 1, that gets me to the Toronto area about 7-8PM on Saturday.

Trip round-up. The Tundra with 185K miles was flawless. averaged 18.8 MPG.

Specific reason for going up was to get excellent longhood fenders and then a bumper and a 915 and some other stuff. Turned out that the excellent fenders which looked great in pics were a couple of notches up from junk, certainly not worth the drive both in time and $. Not so great.

I wish I had gotten to see Ian but timing was bad for both of us, Did get to visit Christian, could have spent all day there. Wherever I go on Pelican journeys, the refrain is always the same, "wish you lived closer."

His advice to take the Peace Bridge was excellent, waited for maybe 5 minutes in line. Got up to the border officer, he asked what I had in the truck, I said I picked up some old car parts in Wallenstein and he waved me through. 30 seconds.

must have thrown him off. I'll be up again, maybe for another set of fenders. Here are the "excellent" fenders I drove up for. Originally priced at $1800 for the pair.

See, welding is easy! Anyone can do it.
