Buffalo, and others

My heart goes out to you, that is a lot of winter! Hang in there, hope you get some better weather soon. Good luck!

I DO NOT miss having to deal with winter roads on a daily basis.

As I posted in the snow pictures thread - all about where you are. Here on the north side of the city - we've only gotten about 8". Friends in Orchard Park are approaching 8 feet. It's a tough go south of here, but so far most seem to be taking it in stride. The state has brought in most any heavy equipment that can be dragged out this way, and I expect most major roadways to be opened back up tomorrow morning.

Although the snow has many people homebound at the moment - the biggest challenge is going to come Sunday into Monday with the arrival of rain and temperatures into the 50s. That's a lot of weight already on roofs to be adding more water to. There have been a few roof collapses already (one confirmed at a trailer park in one of the eastern suburbs and one at a BJ's club in the southtowns).

I don't care if they offered me twice my current salary - I wouldn't even consider living there. Best of luck to all those folks who do. You're braver (or crazier) than I.

We're maybe 45 minutes north of Buffalo, but what a difference the lakes make. I drove into Toronto yesterday afternoon, about 2pm. Took me 45 minutes. My friend did the same drive leaving at 5pm, took him 4 hours. We all left to come home around midnight, took us just over an hour. It was crazy intense for a few hours, then just stopped, and the cleanup was fairly quick. Bizarre.

I think I could handle the snow, but what gets us around here in the flat lands, is the absolute frigid temps and a non-stop 20+ mph wind that just cuts through you like knives. Last Winter, we had about 10-12 days that the high temp did not reach up to zero. I enjoy getting out on a sunny 30 degree day after a big snowstorm, no dust or smog to choke on.
