I would have been tempted to lay $20 worth of tire rubber on the street!

This experience reminded me of a fellow from whom my FIL used to buy his cars.
There was a time or two when he would to stop in to the lot and express interest in a particular car. The old guy might say something like, "You don't want that car." and my FIL would just ask him to give him a call when he did find something suitable.
I guess it was about the relationship. Ira knew my FIL, where he drove and how much and knew what he was looking for. Small community, 45 years ago.

One dickhead tried to tell me that ATF Type D trans fluid was not Dexron III and wanted to charge me $500 to do a fluid change- it needs "special Mercedes Benz fluid" said the dirtbag druggie auto tech.

(Side note- they call it type D since Dexron is a licensed trademark of GM, so you can't use it)

I was so insulted, I let him finish his schpiel then I paused and said, "you want ME to pay YOU $500 for doing a fluid flush? HAHAHAHA~! Fck that! I ain't paying you ****, you're a moron."

Walked out.

Majority of the shops here are run by scumbag druggie types, with no clue.

Vegas just bums me out. Too much negative energy I suppose. My grandfather lived there for years working on hotels. He lived in a reasonably good part of town. Bars on all the windows, every house.

Hey slow down it's not that bad....I don't like it that much but it's pretty nice here if you stay away from down town. And down town is what everyone across the world are drawn to so that's kinda fun too.
It's not the bars on windows that get's me, it's the walls! Every house has a big cinder block wall around it.
And the street lights! You can't properly test a set of lights without driving out of town seriously. It's bright everywhere.

He lived off Flamingo and Decatur. West side of town. Maybe its gotten better/worse? My stepmom lived in Henderson for a while. That wasnt too bad of a place.

Decatur is barely west. It's the hood as far as I'm concerned. There are some nice culdesacs near there but for the most part it's not the good area. Even near flamingo and Decatur. There are bars on the windows for a reason. Henderson is ok. Summerlin is very nice.

I'm so glad I live in the Midwest. Most every car dealer I stop at just chats a bit and then tosses me the keys. I test drive the vehicle and bring it back. If I'm really serious and leave my info, it's not uncommon for the dealer to allow me to have the vehicle for the weekend. I can't even relate to what the OP experienced.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like a place I would never step foot on.

It was so odd. I asked him "seriously your getting $20 for test rides?"
That's when he told me he has to shut down the lot. Sort of a weed out tactic. So I was like screw it lets do it.
I'm a business owner and I do something similar. When a customer of mine asks for me to do a design that requires more than a simple sketch I always get $300 deposit before I'll do a cad render. Similar deal, it's put into the final price but non refundable. It works for me to remove the lookie loos.
That makes it real serious. I had to start doing that because I was making cad renderings for everyone coming into my store shipping.

My wife's boy consumes cars. I wouldn't let her get a nicer one, on the other hand, I don't want him stuck on the side of the road either. SO it is really hard to find the right one and it takes time. Wadding through the mess.
If he had to buy his own car he might not "consume" them. And busses are pretty good at getting people from point A to point B and require no maintenance by the riders.

I paid for my son's first car, but if he "consumes it" then he'll be on foot.

No one gets it! I said I would do exactly as you state. But this kid doesn't care, he'll just stay on my couch watching football all fing day only to play video games as a rest activity to the football watching. He even says "what do I need a job for?" And he'll outlast me too. We're basically paying to get him out of our home.
I'm so excited he's leaving the day after thanksgiving! I'm so thank full this year!!
Oh I hope it all works out, I hope I get him that mythical car that costs nothing but lasts forever. Otherwise he's staying on my couch.

Sounds like you need to throw him out of the house instead of buying him a car. Pardon my bluntness.

I was hot mopping roofs and doing concrete in the San Fernando Valley (sometimes in August) when I was a teen. I didnt have a choice. Dad kicked our asses.
