I'm so sick of re setting my POS Motorola modem over 5 years old.
Please recommend a high quality modem

I have really only fretted about routers. I just take my modem back to the time warner / roadrunner place and exchange it after they "ping" my gear and confirm the modem is wonky.

Don't know your situation. Are you hard wired into your modem?

Routers, I have had the best luck with the higher end linksys boxes. I don't know price points now but I remember spending $200 when the e-cheapos were $59.

Hard wired modem, router was just replaced no issues, I rent the modem from COX cable......stupid turning it in on Monday and getting something newer and not Motorola

So you aren't having modulator-demodulator issues, you are having bridge issues.

A bridge converts from one physical media to another - in your case, coax to ethernet (probably CAT5)

A router connects 2 or more different networks and provides a path between them.

A true modem is a modulator-demodulator that converts a digital signal to an analog signal and back.

Model number would help.

Likely it's a MoCA (media over coax) device you are talking about.

Pretty much only two players in the MoCA space, Actiontec (used by Verizon FIOS) and Motorola (Used by everyone else and FIOS in the past)

Netgear have a coax to ethernet adaptor but it's a) pricey and b) i don't know if it provides the authentication ability that COX will require.

Your best bet is get a new unit from your provider, set it up as a WAN access point and hang a quality 3rd party router like an ASUS off it to handle DHCP and WIFI access.
