I have spent my entire adult life traveling for the Army (first as a soldier; now as a Civilian). What I do is simply not sleep at all the day before a trip. That way, when I arrive, I'm dog-ass tired and able to fall asleep. Wake up the next day, and my internal clock is already adjusted to wherever I happen to be.

Taking the day off after getting home from Brisbane yesterday afternoon. Wifey said I tossed and turned all night. I picked up a kennel cough. Called Hertz at the Gold Coast Airport south of Brisbane. They have my jacket, it has sentimental value so I'll pay the $25 to have them ship it back to me.

Hugh,
Be careful w the kennel cough. Pertussis (whooping cough) seems to be prevalent this year. Not a long term problem for an otherwise healthy adult, but you need to be vigilant concerning your grandchild. A call to the family Doc may be in order. Hope all is well. Best to Chris and your family, Matt

Matt, thanks, excellent point. I was on 9 flights in 12 days. While I'm not a germ freak, I tend to avoid touching surfaces like escalator hand rails, and I usually take a shower when I get to my next destination. I should probably use hand sanitizer more often.
BTW, my daughter and her husband bought an amazing house not far from where we had lunch last December. 5,000 sq.ft. with a 2,500 sq.ft. finished basement and five acres with a pond for $500K. They will continue to live in Lower Manhattan and use it as their weekend house. Last edited by Hugh R; 12-12-2014 at 12:38 PM.. |

Nice!
Shouldn't take them more than 1.25 hrs., depending on traffic to get back and forth. They need to be out of the city by 1 or 2 to avoid the Friday exodus traffic. Keep me in mind if you get time when you go visit. Would enjoy catching up in person as opposed to over the interwebs! Matt

Go the the night market,, sample a little bit of everything, go back to your room,, puke for 10-12 hours in between sleep.. When you finally wake up and feel better , jet lag will be gone!
