Equipment leasing. Any experience?

Well, my 10+ year old machine (coil winder) looks like it may be biting the dust.
Earlier last year, I lucked out and found a used machine for sale in Romania. I posted about it. I haven't gotten it yet, but it's in safe hands. It should be ready to ship next week.

I wonder if anyone here has any experience in equipment leasing. These machines are quite expensive when new. That used one is the only one I've ever found for sale in all these years. If I can't get this one repaired (not on great terms with the manufacturer, I think) I'd like to find a new one, newer model.

Any good companies to lease from? Any to avoid?

Wolfe, check out PNC equipment finance. We used them as a lending partner at my last job and they would loan on about any equipment and had great rates and were flexible about terms.

Make sure it's not a non-cancellable lease.

Lease is great for some stuff .
Its a great write off rather then depreciate .
It may be good for you.
Watch out for "some " lease companies (they take your money and find reasons not to deliver on their end )
So, ck their references !

whoaaa doggies!

Looks like I may be able to buy a brand new* winder for $6000 (originally $15,000ish), exactly same as mine. The ex-US distributor still has one available. about 7 years old, never been used, and he'll part with it cheap.
He's also still in touch with some of the engineers who worked there previously, and they've got access to replacement parts it looks like. The company is down to four people due to management issues apparently.

Add that to the one shipping from Romania that I picked up for $1200ish, and I could go to a three-winder setup. Hire and train two more people...

a non-cancellable lease is one you can't pay off early to save interest. it could cost you $12k instead of $6K, plus the buyback. got stuck with one on a parts washer years ago. should have been smarter. they never said anything about it and sent a cute lady over for a quick signature to distract my brain.
