We know who the best coach is now. That was the worst play call I've ever seen.

Today, the good guys beat the thugs. |
And the MVP is - Butler? Still waiting for the announcement.

Actually thought Pete out coached Bill during the game, I didn't care for either team so take that for what it's worth. Don't know why you wouldn't run a guy who is almost guaranteed 3plus yards. Was it an audible? Felt bad for Russell, lots better dude than Brady

From now on, I'm skipping entire seasons of the NFL, but just wake me up for the 4th qtr. in the Super Blow! This is getting exciting like when pro cycling was during the EPO doping era. Those boyz making for some good entertainment-

$5 says Lynch opens his mouth now.

Belichick gets a lot of credit for not taking the timeout on the final play to preserve clock and set up Brady for a down-the-field march. He had such total confidence in his defense and the message being sent to them was clearly "we don't need to worry about that - just stop them and get it done". And they did. Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT bit of coaching IMHO. The vote of confidence like that from your coach makes all the difference sometimes - like this time.
Big props to Bill B. and the rest. I feel for Pete C. - he's going to be second-guessing himself for months. Gotta' be awful to live with that guilt and carry it around. I've always kinda' liked him (just not as much as Bill B.). :) |

A free agent rookie wins the SB. WOW!

Terrible decision by the Seahawks to try to pass it in. That was not the play to call, given the risk:benefit ratio.
And a very sly play for the Pats to call at the end, to go for the hard count and bait the Seahawks into jumping offsides to seal the win. |

There were some good commercials, but I thought they lacked any really great ones. The game, however was one of the better games i've seen, with plot twists and catches on thier backs, and stupid calls. it's just entertainment........now onto NASCAR.

Second worst play call in Super Bowl history in my book and interestingly they both involved not handing the ball to a great running back.
I told my son when they were inside the 5 yard line that 3 runs and Lynch wins the super bowl for Seattle. Seriously, not even a play action fake "leap" by Lynch to setup the pass? Boneheaded play call by the Seahawks. |
So is Tom Brady inside your top 5 following this game and the game winning drive?
|
About that play...another perspective.....
If you run the ball on 2nd down and DO NOT GET IT, you must use the last timeout. In this scenario, you cannot risk running the ball on 3rd down because, if you don't get it, you won't see 4th down The alternate scenario Carroll chose has a much higher expected value. In this scenario, you throw into the end zone on 2nd. Result should be touchdown or incompletion. If an incompletion....you can still run on 3rd. Call timeout, and run again on 4th. Scenario 2 guarantees threes cracks at the end zone (2 of which are running plays) given you don't turn the ball over. Scenario 1 runs the risk of only getting two plays off AND the defense can surmise the 3rd down play is definitely a pass. Obviously you can argue a run play secures the ball better and/or having Lynch improves the odds of getting in but there are other ways of looking at it. |
I also think this could have been pure Karma with the ML media whitewash thing.
Whether or not you agree with his antics. |

I didn't have a dog in the fight so I was really enjoying a good game. But I know this, if the Seahawks run the ball like they should have in that position, you're not nearly as happy today. |

At a minimum you play action fake to Lynch with Lynch faking the dive and then try the pass. Terrible, terrible call. |

Rewind it 1 play and that bobble lucky grab after the defender broke the play up would have changed the entire situation. Either way - cue the duck boats. |

Either way it's probably the most I enjoyed a Super Bowl that didn't involve the Steelers in quite a while. |
Something funny to me is that the importance of that off sides call at the end didn't strike me until I read something about it here this morning. I didn't realize if Brady took a knee it was a safety. Wow! terrible time for an off sides penalty.

Great game to watch other than all the gesticulating/antics after virtually every play especially the Seattle side. I wish the camera wouldn't feed those dorks. |

I was merely pointing out another perspective on why they threw it instead of running it. Even with Lynch, NE has a pretty stout goal line defense so there's no guarantee he would have gotten in. |

From Pete Carroll
""I told those guys, 'That's my fault, totally,' " Carroll said on NBC's postgame show. "But we had plenty of time to win the game ... we were playing for third and fourth down, give them no time left ... but didn't work out that way." Umm... then why did you pass the ball??? |
Credit and respect to Pete Carroll for his handling of the interviews after the game. It must have been heart breaking but he answered professionally and laid his heard out there. He did what they tell you a great leader should do - share the praise when you win and accept responsibility wholly when you don't. He made a great example of what a sportsman/leader should do.
On the other hand, his OC (Bevell) is taking credit for making the play call and has passed blame to the receiver on the field for not trying harder to stay on the route or break the play up. I expect that OC will possibly be looking for a new job after not keeping his mouth shut. |

But they would have had to use their only timeout had Lynch not made it in on 2nd down. Then they wouldn't have enough time to run another run play and fail. They chose to run the pass play first....and then have TWO more plays to run it in if needed. Like I said - they were thinking overall strategy. I also believe if Wilson had done his job better.....they would have won the game. |
all I can say is wow.... worst halftime and worst play call..... all in all a great game and frankly Brady did what he was supposed to do.....
|
About the halftime show - I've seen a lot worse than that and at least it was kid friendly. I thought Perry did a great job performance-wise although that's not my taste in music at all.
Was glad Lenny showed up but didn't care for the rapper lady at all. |
I am not usually a football fan but this game was tremendous. The whole nine yards including the half time entertainment. Well done!

If I were the Pats I would have been a bit grumpy about all the blue surrounding the field.
That first Brady pick, Lynch seemed to come out of no where. I don't think Brady ever saw him, he just seemed to blend into the back drop. |
The pass call doesn't bothering me so much. The Pats had stopped Lynch on a 3rd and short earlier in the quarter. At least I think it was Lynch. The Lynch run would be the most predictable play there so why not pass? It wasn't a good pass though. You don't lead the receiver so much and throw the ball high when the DB is right there. Staring at you. He could have thrown it away, over everyone's head seeing the play wasn't open. But those slants are thrown in the end zone all the time and usually effective.

......... back on topic to armchair QB |
What was the play just before the first half ended to score a TD?
Wilson threw a pass to Chris Matthews. Maybe that interception by Butler was a great play by NE - rather than a bad play by Seattle. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/971F4OqnZuw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
