How important is church? Need your advice

If you trash folks that post on PARF...it includes me. If you don't like it, just stay away. Maybe if folks would stop trashing it here, more folks would post there and threads like this one would not pop up here so often "to avoid the cesspool"...or to avoid being painted with that broad brush. It is bad enough that distasteful topics or ones that degenerate into bad behavior here are sent to PARF regardless of whether or not they are political or have religious content.

I and most other folks who post on PARF go to a lot of effort to avoid putting political and religious posts here...out of respect for OT posters and the rules...I expect the folks here to have similar consideration for me by not stereotyping me as crazy or an idiot because I post in PARF. I could just ignore it, but it just gets worse and worse until son indignation is displayed here.🐢

I can only speak for myself...but it seems to me that most of those exchanges do not originate where you claim/believe...but perhaps your tolerance is less than mine. I would think that CA vehicle smogging would be an almost universal complaint on any old car related forum.

Bad experiences with those that claim to be Christians gave me the attitude I have, if you knew what I have been through you would understand.

I grew up a Catholic, I left the church at an early age, this was at the beginning of the pedophile priest problem. Pops was good example setter as well, living a lie, claiming to be a good catholic while banging the whore of the day.

I've been hit on by good Christian women, they were married and knew I was also, I declined the advances. That didn't go over well, my reputation paid the price.

My wallet also paid a price when a contractor that professed to be Christian over charged me a large amount for services rendered. This was fun experience, I had to hire a utility company approved contractor to install a water line. They had a list of about twenty to chose from, I contacted 3 and got bids. I didn't know any of them, the one I hired turned out to be a member of the church down the road. His wife is the niece of a friend of mine, she is friends with the wife of the guy I worked with.

The wife of the guy I worked with is 1 that wanted to be my on the side. All members of the same church.

The same church the minister left after 15 years, he was real Christian. He gave me details of the goings on by my neighbors.

I live in the heart of the Bible Belt, while conducting business I have good experiences and I have had to deal some who think they are special. The 1 I'll never forget, I was called a heathen to my face by a special Christian. Yea, that went over well.

Now I prefer to avoid conversation about religion and those that do.

It sure seems to me that is anything but the case from your posts here. You seem more than eager to insult folks of faith. I suspect that if they were allowed to present their side of the story, it would be quite different. If you speak to or treat them the same as here...it is little wonder they treat you poorly.

I've often left PARF for a hiatus shaking my head at disgust at some of the vile comments I've read directed towards others members of this forum, and YOU ARE part of the problem Fint (though you don't see it that way). Your "spat" with Terry? Grownups don't want to read that crap. The utterly disgusting way in which one of the few female posters on this forum is addressed is beneath contempt regardless of one's political persuasion. I don't venture into the religious threads for the most part....there's a reason. You've never called anyone a "d**k" here in regular OT...I distinctly remember it in one of your PARF posts a couple of years ago....PARF just "brings out the worst" in SOME (otherwise) fine individuals imo. You remind me of a "moderate Muslim" who's wondering why anyone would be attacking their "faith". You don't want to be included in the cesspool comments by the rest of us....then help remove the stench when ANYONE crosses the line??? To be clear...there are equal offenders on both ends of the political (and religious) spectrums, but a very small minority of BOTH simply ruin it for the rest of us. That's just it. PARFers don't know how to have adult conversations. It's a grade-school temper tantrum mentality, and the content is just about worthless. A room full of emotional outbursts and feces-throwing.

I was reminded of this the other day, when I was having a 2nd Amendment discussion with a person who was of a leftward-leaning persuasion. I wondered how many paragraphs it would take for the Keyboard Kommandos in PARF to go personal. This lefty and I had a very good discussion, even though we didn't agree on any point. It was kind, and respectful, and pleasant. I think I may have even gained some understanding from the discussion. The contrast with PARF made me smile.

The likelihood of something like that happening in PARF is zero. Not near zero, but straight at zero, no question. Just like in every other politics/religion forum ghetto in the internet. The commentary and the "points" brought up are identical. It is only the screen names that are different. The tone is identical, and the types of interactions. And when I say identical, I don't mean similar or analogous.
