Very, cool.

The Porsche crest is an unmistakable trademark. It has now been relaunched for the Porsche 356 and the early 911s from Porsche Classic. In order to faithfully reproduce the historic emblem true to the original colour and in the right material, our experts have carefully researched the history of the crest: between 1952 and 1998, there were three slightly different versions. Here, you can get an insight into the complex production process.

A few years ago I sent my old cracked original 1973 hood crest to Allen Haywood, of Haywood enamels in Australia. this is what he sent back about a month later.

Yep.

That's one of the reasons I'm never selling the 911. Something cared for, and crafted, in it's build. So I'll look after it for it's life.

It looks like the base metal is brass. Very old school.

The crest was made up in the 50s

http://seq.pca.org/crest.htm

I don't care for the crest. Made up quickly in the 50s. It is stuffy and conservative compared to other sports cars emblems.

By the '80s at least it was made of some kind of white metal. The gold coloring was almost gone from mine when I bought the 924S.

Beats wearing dead guy's shoes and clothes.

The Porsches were part of the regime in the 3rd Reich and choice of some old fashioned made up coat of arms for their crest is testimonial how those guys ticked, even after the war.
