Murder charge vs police officer

Officer charged with murder here. Looks like planting evidence. See the video.

it's on CNN now I just don't know what these cops are doing
on the other hand something must have happen before as this was a traffic stop but they are in a park area
and these black folks have to stop fighting back or getting into confrontation with police as when anyone does that bad news bears
I'm sure if I tried to grab a cop or his gun as a white person he's gonna probably shoot me or hurt me
I just don't get it

He fired his Taser, an electronic stun gun, but it did not stop Mr. Scott, according to police reports.

Moments after the struggle, Officer Slager reported on his radio, “Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser,” according to police reports.

Can someone edumucate me on the Taser? Isn't is a "one shot only" kind of weapon? Or do you have multiple little packets of the darts or whatever?

I always thought that you shoot the taser once and then there's a somewhat lengthy reload process. Something a man running from the cops wouldn't really be able to do.

Point being: "He stole my (already used) taser" doesn't even sound like it would give anybody an advantage.

Some tasers launch little darts and are indeed one shot weapons. Others simply have two fixed points that you poke into the other guy. They recharge the capacitor very quickly and can be used repeatedly. You have to be pretty "up close and personal", though.

Watch the video. Officer shoots, walks over to the prone man, walks back to where he was, picks something up, walks back to the prone man, drops that object by the man's body. I'd bet that was the Taser, that the man supposedly took from the officer.

Cop was wrong and will pay dearly for the decision for sure...

but if the guy would have not run after the traffic stop we wouldn't be talking about it.

Black, white, or any other color, if you run from the police they will catch you.

According to the news report, he ran because he didn't want to go to jail for child support non-payment.

Just before he shot there was something going on we didn't see. That's when the taser or whatever it was dropped to the ground.

There was definitely some kind of struggle.

But does that justify what happened after?

(I counted 8 shots)

The officer's ego seemed to think so.

Everyone else said no.

It's easy to sit here 100's of miles away and second guess the situation.

I don't see any reason why the cop needed to shoot. By the radio transmissions I heard there were enough officers in the area that the running guy would have been captured again.

I never understood the police harassing people for having a light bulb out. News Flash, Light bulbs burn out. It is not a crime. It is actually quite common. Just tonight, I had to replace a light bulb in my bathroom. No one deserves to pay a fine, get searched, show their ID, or get shot for it.
Maybe a friendly reminder, " hey , your taillight is out" would be sufficient
No wonder our great country is a powder keg, and everyone is pissed off at each other.

Actually, there was a warrant for his arrest, and the moment he touched the officer when he was trying to put handcuffs on him, the game changed, he became a felon, an , you can shoot a "Fleeing Felon"
Quote:
The fleeing felon rule under common law permits the use of deadly force against a felon who is clearly in flight from apprehension. The Social Security' Administration also has a fleeing felon rule, allowing SSI, Social Security Disability or Social Security Retirement benefits to be cut off if a felon is fleeing to escape prosecution for a crime, fleeing after a conviction, fleeing to avoid giving testimony, or violating probation or parole.
Fleeing Felon Rule Law & Legal Definition
It is very sad, and as a 50 year old military man knows better than to resist arrest, assault a cop and flee, all over failure to pay child support??

The video appears to show Scott slapping at the officer’s hands as several objects fall to the ground. It’s not clear what the objects are.
Don't fight with cops and don't run from the law, the video shows both. Of course, had Scott been White, we wouldn't have heard about it.

It really is amazing that anyone could watch that and find even the slightest justification for the cops actions.

Don't run?

Yeah, I agree, don't run.

Still not one shred of a ****ing excuse.

Watch it again. Start and stop it.

This is the exact moment the officer fires the first shot, the smoke is still hanging in the air.

Another dumb f***ing cop, trying to act big. He should be held liable and serve his time.

Who says the officer was trying to cuff him?

The officer?

The one who ran back to pick up the taser 40 ft away and drop it next to the dead guy to support his claim the guy grabbed his taser?

Despite that at :50 you can see the officer reaching for his cuffs on his belt to handcuff the now dead guy?

And had he been white and this video existed you can bet your ass you would have heard about it.

I wonder at what point we will collectively say "enough"? As more and more states go to "shall issue" and more and more people take advantage of that, we are seeing an unprecedented rise in the numbers of lawfully armed citizens. I really, really hope I'm wrong (and just over reacting to yet another blood-boiling video), but is it too far fetched to see the day coming where armed citizens begin to protect one another from this sort of wanton police violence? I mean, if it were me with that camera, witnessing this go down, I would have felt some obligation to help the victim. I could have very easily lobbed a .45 Colt slug right through that bastard's left ear before he even got the second shot off...
