I've shot +P in .40 and .45. They're definitely hotter, but not unbearable.

I have +P Corbons for my 9 and my 45, the +P+ seems a bit on the controversial side from what I've read. Beretta says my model 92 will shoot them, but it does say not to shoot too many

Never shot a +P+ load. My G17 seems to digest everything from a 147gr +P to my 115gr loads that won't cycle my buddy's SIG.

This reminds of shooting with my older brother many years ago... he's an LAPD officer and unloaded all of his police rounds and left them on the counter. I not knowing they were different fired them all off. They definitely had a bit more punch and he had to account for their use...

There is really no reason to use that stuff, unless you happened into a screaming deal on it. For all of the increased wear and tear on the gun, there is no real world ballistic advantage to these loads. Just not worth it.

We used to buy old surplus IMI (Israeli) manufactured 9mm ammo that was meant for sub machince guns. Pressures are far higher than SAAMI specs, probably even higher than this "+P+" stuff. It was pretty obvious we weren't doing our little autos any favors. A buddy finally wound up taking all of it for use in his .357 mag and 9mm convertable Blackhawk, which was stout enough to shoot them without harm. Unless you have something like that, or 1911 size 9mm, I don't think I'd use much of it.

I'll bet it would be fun in my Uzi, until it rattled that stamped shoebox apart

I'd consider pulling those bullets and lightening the loads a little, myself.

Or putting in a stiffer recoil spring.

A stiffer recoil spring still won't reduce the wear on a barrel and slide.

But it will stop the slide banging too hard back against the recoil buffer/receiver which is the main problem.

Very true, but I prefer the little rubber washer looking shock buffers. I won't have one in any gun I'm carrying, because they do eventually break, but for range sessions they can mitigate battering a bit.

The problem with the heavy recoil spring is that it works both ways. We are told to never release the slide on an empty chamber, but rather to hold onto it and let it return to battery under some control. The heavy recoil spring mimics the effect of just snicking the slide release on an empty chamber.
