Bully Dog diesel tuner

I have a chance at buying a clean used Bully Dog tuner. Good price and in good shape. I know the diesel crowd loves EFI live but at 700.00 I'm not interested. Just looking to gain some HP/Torque with maybe some extra mpg . Vehicle is a 2001 GMC 4 x 4 diesel dually. The BD has three settings- tow/economy good for aprox. 40-50 hp increase. Then a performance setting good for aprox. 75 hp then high performance setting good for 100 + . I doubt I would ever use the 100 + as I don't want to kill my Allison transmission. So any of you guys using a BD and like it ? Truck is otherwise stock but I see a 4 " exhaust in the future. Truck is used as daily driver and for towing boat and car trailer and truck camper.

I know that vehicles with aftermarket diesel tuners installed are hard to sell. If that's c a concern...

FWIW - Most all modern aftermarket tune module's firmware is written to 'marry' with 1st vehicle that is programmed. When you buy the tuner then plug in - it 'writes' / records that vehicle's information to memory and then becomes a 'brick' to any other vehicle. This prevents selling them on the secondary market which, of course, every manufacturer knows people would do once modified.

You should research carefully - you could be buying something that is worthless to you..........

IIRC there is a way to return the vehicle to stock and make the tuner usable for another vehicle. But I think you're right, I'd be very cautious buying a used tuner. I've been on Ford Truck forums where guys bought used tuners and they were useless because the owner didn't return their vehicle to stock before selling.

I am using an old school Edge Juice tuner on my LB7. Really woke it up, and the fuel milage gains are real. I think I paind $200.00 , local craigslist . They just piggy back into the vehicles wire harness, it never marries to the vehicle, uplug it, and you are un-tuned.
Of course I want to do EFI live on of these days buit that is spendy, and like you, I am not looking to make 1000 horsepower, just a little more snot, and mileage .
I get the best mileage on the 3 rd performance setting, as long as I keep my foot out of it.
