i would think 160-170 should be your max, no?
you are running in the anaerobic zone, yes? makes it harder to burn fat, no?
in the long run, i would think the high rpm would be detrimental to the heart.
mind you, my knowledge base is limited. : )
I've gotten my HR to >200 bpm (203 to be exact) on a spin bike, with no ill effects, didn't feel bad other than being normally tired.

On the road bike, I commonly see 180 bpm, though I can't keep that level of effort up for very long. That's like sprinting 30+ mph on the flat or climbing a hill fast.

150 bpm I can keep up for an extended period. That's like riding 25 mph on the flat or climbing a longer hill.

I have some HR graphs I'll try to find.

Okay, here is a typical hill repeat session with effort/recovery cycles.

And here is a mountain bike ride that was short but had some climbing, at 6000 feet.

Unless you can get named on his life insurance!

John eats pretty good, and cycles daily. He's in better shape than me, and I'm half his age!
