Go with someone that has been...and you trust them.
Not a place to be stranded or in distress. Sure, there’s staff to help with medical issues, but you’re essentially on your own.

I found it interesting that people gave away booze, but when I asked for water they hemmed/hawed. We brought plenty, but at that time my personal bottle was empty.

Getting a ticket will be extremely difficult. The group I went with usually has 6 people. This year only 2 of them and me, the noob, got tickets. My ticket, face value was $425, but after all the fees it was $520.

I brought an N95 mask as well as a 3M professional respirator and goggles in case it got really bad. I used the N95 while sleeping two times.

There’s only porto potties, and you can guess how they were. There were teams cleaning them out every couple days or so, but still.
If you want to shower, you’ll have to bring your own. We have a stand-alone setup but with all the wind and dust, and the water is cold, not much point. So I only showered 1.5 times. The .5 was super quick to get the big stuff.

Everything was a chore. Eating, cleaning, going to the head, er, restroom, all of it.
We were on the second to last ring road and it was loud 24/7. I slept with earplugs in every night.

I had very little relief from the dust. That makes for a hard week when trying to explore and check out the art.

If I go again, I think I’d take an RV, but even that’s no guarantee there will be relief.
The dust will, and does, get EVERYWHERE.

Leaving took us 11 hours to go 120 miles to Fallon Nv. Bumper to bumper stop and go for the first 8 miles, then accidents blocked the 2 way road 34 and 447.

That’s why we planned on leaving Tuesday, that’s historically a much faster exit.

Go here and read up on ALL OF IT. If you’re serious, and really intend on going, you’ll be surprised at just how difficult getting tickets are. Btw, there’s no scalping of tickets. If Burning Man finds out, they’ll void the ticket. Search the web, there’s plenty of discussion about that.

https://help.burningman.org/hc/en-us/articles/360024830531-2019-Ticket-Information

Good luck.

Oh yeah, zero cell signal. I heard some IG models were posting using some DJ’s satellite link, but I was about 5 miles from the site before I regained signal.

My phone was off for 7 days. That was great.

Wow, that appears like a really good place to scratch off my bucketlist (before I go). This sounds like everything I dislike all wrapped into one event.

I have always wanted to go to this event since I first learned about it many years ago.

After reading Dons description I have to say, a quiet state park somewhere in the Smokey Mountains sounds much more enticing.

The description of the dust alone turned me off, I thought it was an occasional wind storm that kicked up, seems like it is way more than that.

It still sounds cool just not my cup of tea when it comes to the filth aspect.

Thanks Don. I have always wanted to go but never been top of mind to actually do it. that I'm not much of a planner, sort of just buy vacation tickets and go in a week. Watched a lot of videos and now I know it's something I need to do so hopefully I'll be lucky for 2020.

Good advice on going, problem for me is I don't know anyone who has gone and just as importantly, only know one person who would want to go. With her it would be a fantastic time I'm sure. A plus for me is I'm extremely durable and well suited for the harsh environment, and can sleep anywhere, any time, easily.

Hanging out with thousands of show offs for days in a filthy environment with no decent plumbing and traffic jams from h*ll just to watch pyrotechnics? Then dump all your trash in the nearest dumpster and pretend you're "green"?

Yeah. You're just too cool for me. If the smartest people you know do that you might want to hang with a different crowd.

If I want pyro I'll settle for Sydney at New Years. From my balcony at the Circular Quay. If I want something cool I'll go to Sapparo for the ice festival.. And I'll pay a lot less for either even flying business.

Way too many truly nice things to do in the world that beat spending time and money on a latter day overpriced propane fueled pop festival covered in dirt.

To each their own....but don't pretend for a minute it's unique.

Sounds like a day at the rig in West Texas on a hot and Dusty summer day. Well, minus the booze part.

You’re very welcome Shaun. I bet if your searched FB in your area you’ll find someone near you. Metal builders, artists, people who grow their own food, homebrewers, etc.
If you find someone, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and your interest in going.
I think you’ll find them very accommodating and willing to answer questions.

PM me anytime.

Wow. I don’t need to quote all of your words, but these sum it up nicely.
What a purely judgmental post about something you’ve never experienced.
Btw, don’t respond with “I’ve never set myself on fire, but I know I’d hate it”.

Because if you truly meant what I put in bold, you wouldn’t have wasted your time declaring your distaste.

My daughter has been and wants me to go with her for a day or two, which is all I really want - separate vehicles

We have been contacted by the BM folks about providing our tethered ducted fan UAV for various purposes.

The reseller out in Reno is meeting with them next month to get their sensor requirements.

We'll see.

I would love to go. The vehicle creativity alone is so cool.

Good idea, thanks. Lot of artistic types around here, me included, so should be easy.

Any idea when 2020 tickets will be available? When did you guys get yours?

Would be great to meet up next one if we both get to go.

Every year, my friend's group of 6 all attempt to get tickets. When I decided to go, my name was thrown in the hat for a ticket.
It's a very strict process on buying tickets.

I'll try and break it down briefly, mostly because I'll prob get some detail incorrect.

I strongly urge you to read the site. Tough thing is, there's a TON of info and pages. Can you say FAQ?

Create a Burner profile. It's free and pretty much standard stuff. That gives you a login.

As the date nears for the first auction, you must enter your payment method. I think this is every year around March.

Some time after that, the official auction date/time is published. When the date arrives, open a second window with a UTC and when the exact second arrives, click once on "buy now", and wait.

If you are successful, congrats. It sells out in literally seconds. But it can takes 10 minutes before you know if were successful.

Month or so later, there's a second auction in the same manner.

Then an OMG auction some time after that.

After that, go through STEP, Secure Ticket Exchange Program. That’s where tickets are securely sold peer to peer, and, where all our tickets came from.

The auctions were a total mess this year. Can't recall the exact reason.
Might've been only the first one.
