Needless to say I think I can safely say we all miss the days of SPEEDVISION and 24 hour TV coverage.

In WEC the fuel is limited over a 3 lap period I believe, so if you go over you have some time to make up the difference, in contrast to F1. So it sounds like Porsche might be laying down the fliers using more fuel than they are supposed to. The battles at Silverstone were very entertaining. So many lead changes with the Audi passing in the turn, Porsche passing on the straight and by the line they'd be right back where they were the lap before.

Baz, you are so right. Like the whole shootin' match, its about making money off the fans not making sure the fans are satisfied with the way the money is being made.

I will stipulate until the flag to flag of the Daytona 500 that CBS did in the late '70's (remember the fight between Cale and Donnie?), the coverage of auto racing was pretty awful. This was better, it just did not meet even the minimum promise made Fox

Did you try all the other online links like the ones gorthar provided?

Did you see the online timing and scoring link that gorthar provided in post #48... http://live.fiawec.com/ ...that showed current stats for all the cars?

Check with slodave... there may be one or two very simple things you could do to avoid this problem in the future.

Also, do you have a cleaner installed on your PC and run it often? Like these:

CCleaner - CCleaner - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Advanced SystemCare Free - Advanced SystemCare Free - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

2015 LeMans Thread

I paid 10 bucks to the LeMans/WEC app and watched the whole thing. No commercials, no flipping from F1 to f2 to whatever, no annoying Varsha. FOX took a viable auto racing network, threw big bucks at it to buy it, then trashed it. I was happy with my 10 dollar purchase and happy to see Porsche win LeMans.

+1

Money well spent, good solid feeds, no ads...
I watched mostly on the site till midnight - same password and bigger screen than my iPad. Then I woke up (west coast) at 5:45 AM, caught the Porsche victory on the iPad, went right back to sleep. Well worth not patronizing Fox (Comcast doesn't carry FS2 anyway). Only caveat with streaming is you cannot record it for later...

I was with slodave. He came over to watch the race. We could not get any of the listed websites to stream, so for the first half of the race we used the in-car feed from one of the Porsches. No commentary, no perspective of running order. But it was better than nothing when FS1 and FS2 weren't broadcasting (which was most of the time).

Somehow, between the 9 pm and midnight dead times, the stream started to come through on FS Go. Not sure why it spontaneously started to work at not ght when it wouldn't do so during the day.

Porsche chief makes shock Le Mans admission | LE MANS news | Motorsport.com

Triumphant team principal Andreas Seidl has told Motosport.com that Porsche had not gone through a whole endurance test without encountering a technical issue on one of its 919 Hybrid cars prior to winning the Le Mans 24 Hours.

I was able to log onto their site, just couldn't get it to start streaming. Sounds like slodave had the same problem I did. My system met the requirements they posted, and I've never had a problem watching any other streaming video, so my guess is the problem was on their end. From what I read on the net, I'm not the only one *****ing about their site.

I looked at all the other links and others I found on my own. Skipped the free ones that wanted my credit card info, skipped the ones that wanted me to update my Flash software using some sketchy 3rd party download (I had already made sure all that was up to date, anyway) and chose not to watch something in French. I don't have much love for Radio LeMans, as they spend too much time yakking about some random back story and not enough time covering the action on the track.

My only hope is that someone in their management will realize just how badly they screwed the pooch this year and fix it for next year.

I actually didn't have any problems. It was Noah930. I didn't have to sign in either. Though, while at his house, the stream was unlocked. When I got home and back on my ATT Internet, the feed was locked. Not sure if it had something to do with his Internet combing through a cable company that was partnered with Fox.

Yeah, I should have stated it more clearly. My thought was if he couldn't get online with you there, presumably helping sort it out, then mere mortals such as myself had no chance.

Or, the problem was on their end.

Anyway... it's done. All that is left to do is identify and locate the idiot responsible at Fox, then kill him.

"....LeMans amateur race."

Pro-am class, but NOT an amateur race. The media gets it wrong again.

The media gets practically everything wrong. That's the most shocking thing I realized in the process of growing older ;-) Everytime you have deep knowledge of a particular topic, you see it mis-reported on across the media. Makes you wonder...

Very happy for Dempsey, however. The guy put his passion ahead of his career, put in the time and the money, came at it with modesty, built up his skills with Pat Long and others, and he got to stand on the podium at Le Mans. I think most of us on this board (at least the track day crowd) would try to do the same if we could afford to! And that's a sport where you can easily kill yourself, we're not talking snooker here. Well played sir, well deserved ! (the fact that he did it at 49 gives me hope too, where's that lottery ticket)

Does anyone know if here will be some of the coverage repeated in the days/weeks ahead?

I kinda doubt it, given that it's FOX, and the awful job they did to the live broadcast to begin with.

But the DVD should out shortly... Given that it's the first Porsche overall win since 98 and I missed most of the night because you can't record streaming easily, I might buy that...

On that side note, I hope that if I can get decent enough at that driving thing (and obtain the required licenses), I might one day be able to pay my way into Le Mans Classic seat, say a 356 or early 911 (not a bad consolation prize) ! That or the SPA 12 hours... You need goals in life, right ?
