Driving through St. Louis ??

I drove thru there once. Following the map it showed the interstate going North. Except it was under construction. Eventually narrowed down to one lane and then ended at a 10' pile of gravel with a big arrow pointing East. Ended up in a part of town that two guys wearing cowboy hats driving a pick-up truck shouldn't be in.

This really is the best route.

As for 60 Hwy. It definitely is not 4 lane all of the way. Only when it bypasses a few towns. The rest is 2 lane and you will having to slow down to drive through towns. Even the part that is 4 lanes has stop lights in places.
