The Keystone was an old Quonset hut. Great times. Another band called Reconstruction played there, with Jerry and Merl Saunders.

Spent all 3 nights in the front pit, 2 nights with my daughter and one with my wife.
Amazing experience, and Chicago was perfect as was the music.

The whole arrangement was fantastic, the three back ups just added to the whole sound. I saw maybe a dozen to fifteen of those JGB shows in the 1990 to 1993/4 sort of time frame and they were fantastic.

If you are a JGB fan, there are several great shows on YouTube with John Kadlicek and the DC Mystery cats that play modern arrangements of some of the old JGB shows.
John is very talented, and does not copy Jerry, but has the chops and voice to be the heir. He was the lead for Furthur, until they disbanded. http://youtu.be/ZaUGXzNdeE0 Last edited by Ziggythecat; 07-07-2015 at 04:38 PM.. |

Just heard back from my buddy Mark that went, and he says, that it was the best grateful dead type show he has seen since Jerry passed. He has been to 50 some rat dog/phil and friends, and further shows, and said that by far, this was the tightest they have been since.
Said that it was also a real good vibe in Chicago. He was saying that if felt like old times Good stuff, I am anxious to hear what my buddy Todd has to say .

Yeah, the more I listen to the shows the tighter they sound. They had moments of confusion, but overall it seemed like a great experience. The closers were great as well, "Attics" was a great choice, read somewhere that it seemed like a prayer to Jerry, and in a way, I guess it was.
Ziggy, you are a lucky man. Oh yeah, JGB? Some great shows from 91-92, 11-12-91 at the Spectrum blew me away...

I caught the Saturday night show in Chicago.
Great vibe in the city. Great time at the shows. Definitely like the shows of old - without Jerry of course. Much better than any Further, Dead, etc. I watched and listened to all 5 shows several times each. Considering their age and diversity they pulled it together better than expected. Trey played lead like a champ. Vocals where rough from everyone except Bobby. He sounded like a much younger version of himself. Even hit the high notes! I'm glad I invested all the time and cash to enjoy the experience. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

All the shows are easily found on the net. Some wonderful HD rips.
Sitting here having a cocktail watching the 4th of July show, which I attended, and am really impressed in Trey performance of Standing on the Moon. Brought a tear to my eye thinking of my Father whom I buried last week. Decided to compare it to the first time I saw Jerry play the tune and popped in the Downhill From Here DVD of Alpine '89 - my first Dead shows. Also an incredible performance. Love those guys. Definitely affected who I am today. What a long strange trip.

I have this run on shows as well that are pretty high quality.
Standing on the Moon by Trey is probably the one I wanted to hear the most with him singing. |

I saw probably 20 or more MSG shows and the last one was in 94. I was lucky with the mail order and got floor seats and we were right infront of Jerry just a handful of rows back. The stand out from that three night run I made there was Standing On The Moon. Its one of my all time favorites. The other was Black Muddy River. Two classics.

I'd rather be with you...
Philly in 95-3/17. The 3 night run 17/18/19 was killer, despite being 95. The "rather be with you" refrain that night still makes me well up, much like the love not fade away refrain. 3/18 was "The Last Time", sort of a joke when they would play it, but for me, unfortunately, it was. Just lost my titanium bracelet with " listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul" inscribed on the inside while applauding a Hildago Bertha at a Los Lobos show.

They played Unbroken Chain on that last night. IIRC that was the first time in a couple decades. The Philly paper created a lot of chatter because the published that the band had sound checked the Unbroken Chain.

I see that "The Dead and Company" announced some fall tour dates. I'll be going to the Philly show. I would consider an MSG show too but I'll have to see what tix are priced like.

I figured they would be doing more shows. I'm disappointed that they are actually doing the New Years show in LA. That's sacrilege! It should be in SF or Oakland as it was for 30 years.
