$36K. That is really something.

aigel 08-24-2016 03:35 PM

Yes, the 928 is appreciating - especially now that Shaun bought one ... that money is okay with me, but NOT for a slushbox.

Seems like with the 911s headed for the stratosphere the 944 and 928 are finally getting some love. They are about the only option for a reasonable classic Porsche.

sugarwood 08-24-2016 09:02 PM

For the average guy without Shaun's ability and experience, i don't see the logic of buying a 928 or 944. If you looking for a project, that's one thing. But for a car to drive, If you're thinking the V8 @ 3500lb, seems a modern Mustang, BMW, or Camaro would be easier on the wallet..

If the 4 cyl. 944 route, I'd just go Miata.

The last thing you'll want to do at that age is wrench under a car

Why did Shaun pull out the engine in the first place? He's taking about a radiator, and next thing I see is photo of the engine being removed

Yeah we'll see. I know plenty of guys 60+ that still tinker. My lift makes life way easier, at 36 I already don't like rolling around under cars on a hard concrete floor.

Shaun @ Tru6 08-25-2016 04:06 AM

At 48 I'm a little slower and more patient which makes for a more enjoyable experience under a car. I think the key is to do work on your terms which is not always possible. But when it is...

Have you been able to locate an NOS radio suppressor? The car won't be complete without it.

No but I am putting in a vintage Eclipse copper chassis head unit, ADS amps and 10 Focal and/or MB Quart speakers.

^modern mustangs, camaros, etc. do not drive like a 928, are not screwed together by hand like a 928. Hard to describe if you've not experienced a good one. Mine was 100% original, <19,000mi. The car feels as if it's chiseled out of a single giant block of granite. 2016 Mustang not so much.

If I'm not mistaken on a 928 you need to remove the engine, torque tube, and 14 electric motors to get the radiator out ;)

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life

haha! I need a name based on the word "bright" for the salsa. I'm thinking Vivo.

herr_oberst 08-30-2016 03:57 PM

Somebody wrote on it!

Shaun @ Tru6 08-30-2016 03:58 PM

In German no less! I had to use Google translate to figure it out.

Piston salsa, probably wouldn't sell very well.

Might be the wrong demographic to go after, but a sale is a sale after all.

Back to the topic at hand, is that the only piston you need to get the engine back together?

Man, do I really want a 928, just can't justify it to myself since the 911 barely gets driven as it is. I live through you for the time being.
