You can try. Did you do the 1 report, or 3 reports for 1 price?

Did the one report one price, The car is a US car 1984. Just seems odd that they have 7 reports until I paid for the report , then they have no information on the vin !

The 7 "history reports" are from the seven other suckers coughing up $40.

When you list a vehicle on eBay, they'll run their own version of carfax. It's free to list 5 or so cars per year. I did that with the last car I bought, and cancelled the ad the next day.

eBay uses AutoCheck. I got it for my 993 on eBay and also ran a Carfax. Both were inaccurate.

Autocheck is far worse than carfax, so you get what you pay for. Twice I've sold cars with (disclosed) accident history that didn't show up on autocheck. IIRC, one was structural.

You have to look at it this way- if Carfax shows something, it's usually accurate or at least a tip-off to something relevant. You can't expect them to show everything. That would be impossible to track every repair done on every car. So, it can be a shortcut to finding out useful information, but not relied upon to show everything. A potential time-saver.

The only accurate information that you can expect from CARFAX is where & when the initial registration took place and how many times the vehicle's been re-registered since. As for accident damage history or any other issues, forget it! I once owned a car that was involved in an accident and incurred over $20K in damages. CARFAX came back clean as a whistle. Accident repairs, flood damage, etc. only show up if the shop handling the repair bothers to log it into the CARFAX database.
