Ever hear of a "IN-TRANSIT REPAIR" license plate?

I'd love to have something like this tiny truck, but have been told you must stay on private property to operate one.

Front plate says "Aruba"

Steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Keeping a battery in it, might be an issue.

What sort of loophole is an "IN-TRANSIT REPAIR", and what are the limitations?

Would you still need one if the vehicle is over 25 years old?

Looks kind of like a Daihatsu HiJet.

According to this, they are street legal in some areas:
Quote:
...they are approved for use on local roads in several states in the United States.
[...] State legislation passed during 2008 in Oklahoma and Louisiana are the most liberal, prohibiting their use only on interstate highways.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_truck

The plate seems to be a temporary use tag that can be obtained by auctioneers:
Quote:
An auctioneer/in-transit repair plate may be issued to an individual, partnership, corporation, or association, including vehicle dealers, who, in the ordinary course of business, have occasion to legally pick up or deliver a vehicle. The auctioneer/in-transit repair plate may be used to move a vehicle for repair or service, or to pick up or deliver a commercial vehicle being driven to a facility to undergo aftermarket modification. The in-transit repair plate is placed on the vehicle being picked up or delivered.
SOS - Auctioneer/In-transit Repair
Found with Google search of "in transit repair tag".

If you're totally on private property, why bother with a plate at all?

We have many auto recycling yards in Flint. I see those plates on vehicles quite frequently.

I might have to masquerade mine (one day) as a U of M vehicle just to keep the cops at bay. I'll just tell them I'm a big maize & blue sports fan if I get caught - haha.

Those are Japanese Kei trucks. They are limited to 660cc. Also limited to a certain weight and dimensions. They are ubiquitous where I live in rural Japan. Very useful and have adequate power for light use. I think most of them are 3 cylinders the engine is in the middle.
You would have to check your state laws about licensing for road use. I'm pretty sure it also would need to be over 25 years old.
I have seen farmers in Vermont using them as farm vehicles but not licensed.

The Chinese version of those show up on the surplus auctions due to the fact that the Air force bought a **** ton of them. IIRC They go for 2-3k 4x4 with A/C... I think spare parts are going to be the hard thing if anyone bought one.

I think those plates are like the Arizona Dealer plates that I see around everywhere. Loophole so that dealers don't have to pay registration/emissions/title.

Sort of. Airwolf was a 222, and the UM helicopter is a 430.
You can't hardly give away a 222 these days. This one has been running on ebay for over a year with no buyers.... Major Price Reduction Bell 222A Helicopters VIP Fresh Annual | eBay
