My daughter got married exactly a year ago on Fisher Island ,Miami, and it certainly worked out cheaper to organize( but not for the guests, 90% of whom travelled from England!) than having a UK wedding which would have resulted in a doubling of the guest numbers and at least 50% higher cost/head, and a more expensive band.
Superb do, $30Kish for the wedding; and it would have been $3k for the post-rehearsal lunch but for the fact that the very ritzy restaurant screwed up so we got them down to less than $1k.

My daughter is getting married next week. We have 304 people attending. 28 in the wedding party, Jr bridesmaids, Jr grromsmen, ring bearers. Add in the limos (1 tour bus outfitted as a limo, 4 smaller busses for transport of guests, a limo for my dad and sister/BIL, flowers, photographers, videographer, DJ & crew it really adds up fast.

The reception has 2 open bars, all top shelf booze, 10 beer selections, a martini station, a vodka station. For the cocktail hour there are 12 choices of Hors d'oeuvre distributed by wait staff, 6 carving and specialty food stations, a mash potato bar, pizza station, and I don't remember the rest. Dinner has 6 choices of entree, caesar salad, 4 choices of pasta, veggies, a vegan dish, etc, etc. 7 layer wedding cake with different fillings. Oh, don't forget the 2 Coney Island Stations and Popcorn Stations on the way out the door.

It is money well spent! But, I can't wait for it to be over. It has been 18 months of non stop wedding talk. Not to mention my son got married in May. It was a lovely affair at a beautiful venue on the East River looking at the Manhattan skyline. I also paid 99% for that one. Thankfully no more kids to marry off,

There is zero correlation, IMHO, between the amount spent on a wedding and a great wedding.
The most elaborate and most expensive wedding that I have attended (was a groomsman) was also the most wooden, uptight, and boring. They were also divorced within a few years. As always, your mileage may vary.

Sidney, I would have been on board with spending less, but there were expectations from my wife, her parents and my parents that all worked to drive the price up. I also wanted a live band. They were amazing and had 100+ people dancing until midnight when it shut down. Definitely not uptight or boring.

The other thing was, dad didn't say hey here's a budget and if you spend less you get the balance of the money. The money was for the event.

It's a good thing you don't live in Oregon, you would have also been spending for a weed bar and a budtender!

Oregon wedding features marijuana bar, budtender

No daughters here, but I would offer $25k to elope (and hope to be invited to the ceremony, wherever it is). Oldest son is getting married in Montana next August, expect to be paying some (most?) of the affair but knowing the couple I think it won't be terribly extravagant.

No wonder so many people get divorced. A fortune is spent on their wedding, and then they are dumped back into the real world of day to day living. I realize this group tends to have above average incomes, but the numbers you are throwing out just leave me stunned.

8 months pregnant? Sorry girl, the fantasy wedding is off. Face reality.

Nah... If she's 8 months now and the wedding is in the spring, the tummy could be gone completely with a little work at the gym. And the infant can lay in a basket as decoration for the wedding.

Or course by Spring the baby daddy may have already gone to the corner store for a pack of smokes.

My FIL put my wife on a "budget." He stroked a $40k check and asked if "that would take care of it?" We were fortunate to have that, budgeted a gorgeous wedding that everyone thoroughly enjoyed, and pocketed just over $20k from what was left over and gifts. Paid of my old car and student loans

His son, middle kid (Dad's favorite) will be getting married 6/15 was given $78k for his wedding. I'm in the wedding...which will be awesome because son is trying to get dad to take private jet to Porsche Driving Experience in the Carolinas. Sure, I'll go along for the ride.

No, dad doesn't equate love with $...nooo

Our daughter got married at the Carton House Hotel near Dublin Ireland in May. Convenient for my relatives in England and the outlaws' relatives in Ireland. About 80 guests. Total was about $40k Can or about $30kUS. The inlaws split up about a year ago. Daughter and son in law seem very happy and have good values.

Negotiated with the inlaws for them to pay half which they reluctantly did. Wedding was perfect. I have no regrets but my wife and I(my second marriage) cost a few hundred $$ with the ceremony done at the Justice of the Peace 30 years ago.

Cheers, Guy

That's almost worse than paying for it.
I was best man for a wedding and the girls really, really wanted the guys to be involved in the planning. We really, really just wanted to watch football. The finally just wanted us to design our own boutonnières. Our design was half a cantaloupe with a scoop of cottage cheese garnished with marijuana buds. They didn't speak to us for a week, and we were fine with that.

They just didn't understand the rules of the game.
Girls plan the wedding, Daddy writes the checks, groom plans the honeymoon!

+1 This isn't 1950. Professional women are having babies thru donors with no man in their life at all. My daughter and her fiancé have been living together for some time and in love. Marriage isn't as important to the young generation as it was to ours (unless they're gay I guess ).

My daughter is fit and thin, even 8.5 months pregnant. By the wedding, she'll be back to a size 4 and wearing a a beautiful wedding dress like it never happened. During the ceremony, my wife and the groom's mom will be fighting over who gets to hold him and leave early to put him to bed.

If marriage isn't important, why is the expensive wedding so important?

I also see them doing them all the time at Surfer's Knoll by Ventura Harbor if that's what they're into.
Just noticed you are in Ventura, there are multiple beaches she could get married at, surfers knoll, Emma wood, Buenaventura, and on and on...
Book the Ventura Theater for the after party? Solvang?
