Help From the TV Guys Please

My 32" RCA TV is acting up. I use this as a spare and it's connected to an antenna, I get a dozen decent HD channels.

The TV turns on and works on one channel. I can't change anything, not the volume, not the channel, not the input selection, no mute, nothing. Neither the remote nor the side panel buttons do anything. Occasionally it turns itself off after about five minutes.

Here is the model:

These capacitors look a little sketchy...

And there is something that looks like drops of oil inside....weird.

Any suggestions?

Those caps popped. Caps are oil filled. Hence the oil.

I just did this same thing on my 70's Marantz. I replaced all the caps on the board, brought it back to life.

I'd replace all of them, personally.

To get a closer look at the caps I peeled the shrink wrapped cover off.

They are inductors...

I must have a failed capacitor somewhere else.

I'm still not even sure which board is the issue.

A used 32" TV isn't worth much effort. If I can find a blown capacitor I will change it. If not, out she goes...

And since the board I have removed is the 'main video board' and my TV does work, well, I may be looking in the wrong area. But then again, it may contain the EPROM that runs the TV controls.

Do you know how to measure voltage on each side of a power transformer?

Sometimes that's a place to look.

Unfortunately if the voltage on the backside goes weird it means something down the line probably got fried also.

Good luck! No harm in trying and having fun and learning something before you bin it.

That's weeks, and many wasted hours away. But you're probably right.
