What is with ****ing kids these days!
My construction trailer has several large windows and one was busted out with a rock, so I got window guards.
They busted out the window to the door, so I covered it with sheet metal. They busted a small 12"x18" window in back, so I covered it with sheet metal. The front of the trailer has all kinds of dents and holes from rocks (unfortunately, there is ample supply due to my temporary drive). Just now, they walked past from school getting out (and sound like a bunch of hyenas) and pitched a rock at the trailer while I was inside ordering materials for a job. I ran out and they were 200' away. I need to get in shape so I can run faster and chase them down. Rant over... |

Get yourself a mountain bike, chase them down and call their parents.
Alternatively, get a webcam or something, then just sit out by the road at the appropriate time of day and follow them home and give them the bill for the repairs.

We called them dirt clods.
But we "hucked" them at each other, not at windows. |

Maybe you. But I call huge BS on kids throwing rocks at things that are breakable now, and not before. Some of these older pelicans are really losing it! Probably got hit with too many dirt clods...

Yep, I did it, and I'm pretty sure my dad did it. Except he got arrested for stuff like that, I could run faster

I blame inflation and a weak economy.
Way back when, eggs were cheaper. Once the chickens went free range, the price went up and it was fait accompli. The economic burden shifted from the projectile thrower to the window owner. Eggs are no longer an affordable projectile. Rocks are free. The market has spoken.

Church near my house put up exterior lights, and then put a cage around the lights to prevent this type of behavior. I took that as a personal challenge. Yeah, I was an ******* as a kid.
On the bright side, when I "won" that personal challenge and got called to task for it (really don't remember how I was determined to be the guilty party), all I suffered was an ass-whooping from dad, followed by a formal apology to the church, and I paid to have the light replaced. No cop involvement.

I'd have to pay to fix it out of my hide. Literally. As in not sit down for month. I'm sure there were plenty of kids back then who broke windows, but they didn't have my parents. But we didn't have a problem choosing up sides and having a good dirt clod fight, best time was right after the farmer plowed the field. On his best day in the pro's my oldest brother could throw a baseball 97 mph. He usually held back or threw with his opposite arm, unless you did something dumb to make him mad. If you did you definitely didn't want to get hit by one of his clods. There were a few times when I had to check my back to see if it went all the way through. |

Good stories. Reminds me of how I learned that you never hold a roman candle horizontally.

We were lucky in that there was a huge abandoned juvenile detention center right down the street from my house. This place had probably 7 or 8 large buildings, and 5 houses that were the living quarters. We got to break all the windows we wanted, spray paint graffiti and vandalize till our little hears were content.

When we lived in Atlanta, our neighbor Bob, who was renting, liked the neighborhood so much he bought the vacant lot next to us and built a house for his family. And I do mean HE built the house. Pretty much every bit of it by himself. Took several years.
One morning I woke up to loud popping noises. Bob had just installed the pink foam board/insulation stuff all through the framed out house. Neighbor kid was having a sleepover and three of the boys were out throwing rocks, kicking, breaking, and generally just destroying all of the installed foam board. Neighbor kid who was hosting the sleepover was not involved, but his dad was really mad at me and Bob, the guy building the house, because the police were called. Always wonder how that kid turned out.

I can remember my dad ranting on about vandalism.
He'd say "vandals are the lowest form of criminal, they destroy for no reason. A thief steals because he wants or needs something, so he takes it. There is a real motivation there even if it's wrong. But to destroy just for pleasure, there's no excuse or forgiveness for that." |
