your favorite Hendrix song?

Mine is "Jam Back at the House" live at Woodstock (on side one of Woodstock II).

From about 2/3 through, it's like Jimi is playing two lead guitars, both of them wailing and screaming.

It seems totally impossible.

Tough choice to make but I do like All Along the Watchtower

911dean 11-19-2015 03:21 PM

For me it's The Wind Cries Mary.

dheinz 11-19-2015 03:30 PM

"Like a rolling stone" from the Monterey Pop Festival...

5String43 11-19-2015 03:35 PM

Like flatbutt, I like his take on "All Along the Watchtower."

Me three. I remember when it first hit the air I wanted to go buy the album. I was not disappointed. I still have it.

Voodoo Child Slight Return

Little Wing.

Voodoo child

listening to the fantastic Robert lucas cover this morning

honorable mention for Hey Joe, another honorable mention for everything else

Rick V 11-19-2015 04:28 PM

Yes, that one

Rapewta 11-19-2015 04:28 PM

In Feb. 1968, he played in the Men's Gym at Sacramento State University.
I was there. A senior in high school.
No bigge but today as a player in a classic rock & roll band, we play his stuff.

My personal favorite wasn't penned by him but we (the band) go right into it after Purple Haze...

"Hey Joe."

I love the chromatic walk-up at the end of the slow tune. The guitar player and I hit it
perfect.
That is my all time favorite.
Now to be honest.. after Axis: Bold as Love...
couldn't take any of his "ran out of gas/ideas" crap.

RIP

Castles Made of Sand - hands down.

wdfifteen 11-19-2015 05:41 PM

How do you chose? I'll throw out "Angel" just because it hasn't been mentioned, but every song mentioned could be a favorite, depending on my mood.

targa911S 11-19-2015 05:43 PM

you got me floating or spanish castle magic.

wdfifteen 11-19-2015 05:47 PM

I've listened to Anjelique Kidjo's version of Voodoo Chile and tried to imagine what she and Jimi could have done together with it. It would be amazing.

herr_oberst 11-19-2015 05:47 PM

Red House or 51st Anniversary

Hard to choose.

stomachmonkey 11-19-2015 05:53 PM

I prefer Band of Gypsies to Experience.

Experience always felt sloppy, was not a fan of Mitch's drumming.

I love Jimi's rendition, but the SRV version blows it away in my mind. Can't go wrong with any Hendrix number that's for sure!

Also love Voodoo Child (Slight Return). SRV's version also makes me tingly!

Star Spangled Banner. Over the top in every way.

Manic Depression hands down the best. Loved Mitch's free flowing style that fit right in.
Hey Joe (but it is so overplayed)
The Wind Cries Mary

You probably think that Keith Moon was a bad drummer...
To each his own.

JavaBrewer 11-19-2015 07:12 PM

Get your pitch forks and fire ready. I don't like any JH or Beatles songs at all.

Flamethrowers at the ready, also hate Jethro Tull and Rush.

Mitch Mitchell was amazing.

Come on, man. Keith Moon was a bit sloppy. But his style within the Who made him incredible. The Who were awesome because of the collective members.

the hi-hat on this is pretty impressive, but he's off time in a few places. Then again, its the Who. It all works together.

Damn. I like all of the above. Red House is pretty cool though. I just saw a video of Jimi playing Red House live. I told my son, he is so good, I wonder if he will even sing. It simply didn't need the vocals.
