12own - you shouldn't have told anyone you were a girl. Now you will get dodgy comments about what you need to wear for the photo

I'm in. I'm 6'1" and 205 lbs. I was able to get down to 175lbs about 4 years ago (from 217), so maybe I can do it again.

Cool contest. I am 6'3" and 185 lbs. I don't have any meat to lose (but I wish I could put on some muscle... maybe the next contest?).
These pics could get nasty. Maybe we can offer a pedicure to one of the losers?

6'4" and 290+ lbs. Unfortunately, the bathroom scale here doesn't seem to go that high...
And I don't buy newspapers. However for some new tyres, I could probably buy a couple... the problem is, when I exercise heavily I tend to put on weight. edit: Looking at the foot pics, how about a related contest for the best garage-related scar on your feet? I've only got a little one from a tungsten-carbide cutter... but there must be some impressive ones out there.

This contest is a clear discrimination against the gravitationally challenged!
![]() What about the person who loses the most PERCENTAGE? THat way those of us that don't tip the scales can still play?

I thought it would be a contest in the Jerry Seinfeld sense, Jerry being a Porsche guy and all.
At least that would level the playing field for skinny guys.

Okay, this is really cooking along! A few replies:
Mike Navarro: ALRIGHT! Thanks! You're the first official entrant. You've got the ball rolling! My kinda guy. First one on to the field! Go Irish! 12own911: girls are welcome, of course, never meant to be sexist. Glad you are on the board and "on board" with the contest. Cam: You found the riddle of the Sphinx: "eat and drink yourself stupid" I was hoping someone would pick up on that. That was why I chose the 24th... so you could eat up/drink up UNTIL the holidays, when it really gets difficult...cookies, turkey, etc. eion: come on man, toss down the two bits for the local paper and get on the wagon! Sorry to hear about the foot injury. I had a plantar wart once, but that's neither here nor there! lendaddy: You're in! Industrial scale is okay as long as it is accurate enough to be fair. We will have to round your initial weight down if it uses increments greater than five pounds. Oh, the nextel is fine, or just go buy a real paper, man! Get the NY Times if you hate the local rag. It'll be worth the effort! FREE TIRES! Chuck: What is a contest in the "Jerry Seinfeld" sense? I missed that. I really don't watch a lot of television. CStreit: It has to be in pounds lost. The percentage loss has no bearing on the horsepower gained. To wit, if you weighed 100lbs and lost 10 you would likely win on percentage but the effective "horsepower gain" would be less than the guy who goes from 250lbs down to 226lbs (a fractionally smaller percentage).

Dave, "the Contest" is the most famous Seinfeld episode.
Dieting requires self control, so did this contest. Check this link: http://www.maineantiquedigest.com/articles/sein0798.htm

Chuck,
I remember now. Thanks. If I recall, the media was all over the story as being a little over the top of then-acceptable prime time subject matter.

Last time I lost enough weight to win was when I got divorced....If I married her again and divorced her again, I'd be in the running, but I'd have to sell a few cars to afford the lawyer and the therapy.
Count me in on the 24th ![]() I'll have to dig up a reg scale as the one I have is in metric (you weigh less with those)

Descrimination rears it's ugly head. How about scrounging up a second set of tires and having a drawing for those of us who can't afford to lose any weight???
Lee 6' and 170 lbs. (5 pounds over my typical 165 thanks to Thanksgiving treats) |

This contest needs a name. It shall be:
"MAMMALCHEMY 2003: WILLPOWER INTO HORSEPOWER!"

6 feet and probably 210.
I'd love to get back down to 175, win some tires, and, most importantly, actually fit IN my Recaro SRDs, instead of ON my SRD's! Alas, I don't see it happening in the near future. |

Aw, c'mon Jim! You aren't eating breakfast at Paul's house are you? In the words of Rob Schneider's character in The Waterboy: "You can dooooo it!"
