Another thing I'd note is that a VPN at $5/mo gets you access to foreign streaming that is otherwise georestricted.
For example, many of the sports I want to watch are on Eurosport's internet Player in the UK and also streamed by other European broadcasters, but these streams are not available in the US. A $5/mo VPN, a $10/mo subscription to Eurosport Player, and a bunch of other broadcasters bookmarked gets me access to that stuff. I use this for bike racing, European Rally Championships, ski racing, and it is all on-demand as well as live. BBC streams some F1 races. Sky Sports has F1 and other sports (soccer etc), but that subscription is spendy, about $45/mo in USD, and I don't care quite enough about F1 nowadays. My wife watches some BBC series on Netflix where the current season is only available if we use a UK server, with the VPN that is a click away. The other thing is that it is not necessary to pay for faster Internet service merely to watch streaming video. Finally, if you plug your computer into one of your TV's HDMI inputs, you'll be able to watch on the big screen.

I used to get cable, with HBO. I was sort of amazed that there was not one HBO channel, but something like 10 (!) I had it, and I watched it. Most of the TV I watched was on the premium side. I kept taking advantage of sale rates to pay less. Then I got rid of the HBO to save money - sure I liked some of the stuff I could get, but it wasn't that important. Then I moved and dropped basic cable, too. I have never been a big TV person and decided I had better things to do with my time. Kept my old tube TV and VCR (!) and DVD player to watch movies. Mom gave me an extra flat-screen recently so now I have a nice TV for $0. After a year or two here I got a subscription to my super-awesome movie place (Facets) - for DVDs, it works exactly like Netflix, $10/month for one at a time, you can get them in the mail but they're 5 minutes from my office and 20 from home so I just stop by in person. Plus they are a theater and I get free or super-cheap admission, special monthly screenings, etc. It is a hard-core film-nerd place so their DVD/tape collection is outstanding. On top of that my girlfriend is an academic librarian and can get almost anything from her university's collection to watch. Movies are all I have any interest in using my TV for, so I'm as set as I can ever get for $120/year. I do like to watch a few cable shows like Better Call Saul and the Walking Dead, but I have a friend who hosts viewing parties or I can use her account to watch them online. I marvel at people who pay $100 / month or more for TV! I would rather read a book or something nearly all the time, so that is what I do instead. I get a ton more value out of spending $1000/year on cool trips overseas or bike parts or whatever, or just leaving it in the bank. Turn off the TV and do something else!

I installed the antenna today and I am happy with the results. I have to learn what I'm doing in regards to aiming the antenna ( it has remote turning ) but right off the bat I get 37 channels that are very clear. Some pixalation on the NBC channels for some reason. The adjustable gain box that came with the unit I played around with adjusting low to high and it is better on high gain setting. For the money I am happy and it's great for the man cave but for the house I think I am going to order the Roku boxes. I have taken the first step to cutting the cord !

I now have DirecTV and don't like paying $90/mo.
I'd make a similar move...already have a big HD antenna...but I am an avid Fox News & CNN news junkie. No way I can get those w/o paying for cable or satellite, I guess, huh?

I suspect the actual news content of each is mirrored on their websites.
CNN has an iPad app with video, and a Lightning-to-HDMI adapter is like $10. Fox doesn't seem to have an iOS app that operates independently of a cable subscription, but if you can "borrow" the login of a friend or relative who has cable . . . Sling TV includes CNN but not Fox.
