^I'll 2nd this...approaching 12 months of 997tt cabrio ownership and its a fantastic machine. I run it with the top down most of the time and its a joy to own and drive. Its fun to just cruise at a leisurely pace and enjoy the stump pulling torque to slingshot around the twisty bits. If you want to go fast, its ferocious acceleration will make your passenger nauseous. Its not for the track, but I wouldn't want a heavy modern 911 turbo pig for a track car anyway. For a street car, the cab beats the coupe for pure fun and enjoyment. It doesn't feel like a compromise vs. a coupe in anyway to me with one exception: rearward visibility with the top up is not great...another reason to put it down.

Rearward Visibility??? When you're driving a 997 Turbo, what's behind you is irrelevant:D

I sold a 997 C4S (not a TT) and bought a 2015 Z06 a year ago. It has been a very pleasant surprise owning the Z06. I have never been a "corvette guy" for many of the reasons already mentioned. I will say, Chevy has done a very good job with the Z06. The interior is as good or better than my 997. Has far more tech and comfort items as well. My 2007 997 didn't have Bluetooth, which was quite prevalent by then in far cheaper/more mainstream cars.

As for the motor, the Z06 is an absolute monster. Power in all gears at very low RPM. Faster than most any car you will encounter on the road.

I have not taken it on track yet, but plan to do so soon and often. My car is a 7-speed manual. Most of the overheating issues have been on the 8-speed automatics. Even Chevy recommends the manual if the plan is to track the car.

During my shopping, I had been considering a new GT3, but once spec'd, they were eye-wateringly expensive. Even new Carreras (non-S) are in the $100K range. I was just tired of paying the Porsche tax.

I'm sure you would be happy with either car. I was hesitant to buy a Corvette, but have been very happy with the decision.
