tardiness.
my brother and i are wired exactly the same. we are NEVER late if we can help it. unforeseen stuff that makes us late, drives us crazy.
my brother had a dinner party to get to. call it 7:00 pm. he called me at 8:15 and was livid. his girlfriend was still dolling herself up. chick is very pretty, and quite frankly..probably worth the wait. haha. i could hear the simmering frustration in his voice. i calmed him down. easy since i understand. what is it with people that are always late. i wont even eat dinner with my sister anymore. screw that. that woman is never on time. and shows up like nothing ever happened. i'm not saying what i have going on in my head is healthy. i actually get kinda anxious if time starts to slip. i KNOW that isnt right in the head either.

My SIL is like that, always late.
If she has to be somewhere at 8 she'll leave at 8:15. It always seemed like a passive aggressive thing. She likes to be in control.

My brother in law is like that so we just tell him 1/2 to 1 hour earlier than it really is.
Like SM stated this is though to be a control thing making others wait (serve) for them

I really hate to be late. Depending on the situation (meeting someone at a location that is new to me, for example), I prefer to arrive early and wait (even if in my car). Running late makes me anxious.

If I'm not 15 minutes early I consider myself late.

There is nothing wrong with your head, some people view a set time as something to hopefully shoot for if it's convenient.
My wife starts getting ready 5 minutes before we need to be in the car driving, and has no concept of how long the trip will take. Just last night, she asked me how long to get to a certain town where she had an early morning meeting with a contractor/client. I told her it was a minimum of 45 minutes away, so she needed to be pulling out of the driveway at 5:45 A.M., and not wait till I left at 6:00 A.M. I hate being late for anything, and am usually the one waiting in the parking lot 5 minutes beforehand. |

I'm trying to get my kids to understand being on time.
If I need to be somewhere at a certain time I am there 5 minutes early. I don't like to be waiting on people so I try not to make them wait on me. My car clocks are all set about 4 minutes fast. Drives my wife nuts.

I think being late without good cause is rude and inconsiderate. 10 minutes or so is OK. Being early is just as bad.
I have a relative who simply MUST be anywhere early. If the host says '6-ish' then there's some leeway. |

Control issues. Superiority complex. Disconnected from reality.

I always try to contact the person I am meeting as soon as possible if there is a possibility I will be late.

I travel a lot, not as much as some here, but if the plane leaves at 8:00 AM it leaves, security lines are unpredictable. I'd rather be two hours early than one minute late.
My wife starts to get ready to leave for an event and says it will only take her 10 minutes; 45 minutes later..... |

No one died today, its what some people do. I maybe 5, 10 min late, max. I need to have a grand entrance with everyone present where everyone can kneel and bow.

I have struggled with not being slightly late often. Was late a lot as a teenager and in my early 20s, trained myself out of it when I was older, started slipping in my later 30s, working on it again. In general I am pretty good, but am fairly regularly, if not necessarily often, just slightly late places. Or I am on time, but cut it close. I'm sure this says something about me, but I am not sure what. I never thought of control issues as a possible reason for people who are chronically late, though it is not the case for me. The easy out is to just blame being Caribbean Latin American
My parents lived in Mexico City for a bit in the late 60s and my mom, who is from Missouri, was invited to a dinner party. Let's say published time was 7PM. Mom shows up at 7PM, wife is in the bath and husband isn't home from work yet. First other guest to arrive was at 8PM. I went to a wedding in Bangalore a few years ago, and in a week in that city not one single event ran "on time." If we're supposed to leave the house at 6PM, we left no earlier than 6:45. The groom was an hour late for his own wedding! But that was no big deal, everyone just rolled with it.

We were invited to eat at a nice restaurant with 4 other couples. The people that did the invitation is a retired Marine drill Sargent. He is punctual in every aspect of his life. One of the couples was late for everything because the Mrs had to have her grand entrance. The Marine said in the invite dinner would be served promptly. Mr & Mrs always late were of course late. We ate without them and the waiters were clearing the desert plates when they arrived. The did not get to eat. I loved it.

Early is on time. I had the captain of the USS Abraham Lincoln tell me that while I was waiting on my son (a crew member on the Lincoln at the time).
He said pass the message onto my son. I did
