We went to the Iron Maiden concert in Tacoma back on the 11th. While we were down there, we were supposed to make a side trip a couple blocks away from the Tacoma Dome, to visit a friend and competitors shop.
The reason why? I wanted my GF to see what this little business of mine could become if we joined forces and worked together. Competitor has a 9000 square foot shop, and does three times more sales in a single month than I do in an entire year. More than a dozen employees. We started out business at the same time. He and his wife started it together. I've been spinning my wheels for 17 years without a support network of family interest and a crappy employee who only wants to work part time. It's self supporting, but expansion has been a challenge. Nope, didn't happen. We left well after the time we were supposed to get there. Dinner plans were shot to hell, and we barely made it into the show on time. I was so livid my teeth hurt.

Otter, many of the Europeans I know say the same thing. EU starts everything late while Americans start on time.

I'm wired the same as you, Cliff.
If I say I will be there at 7.......my goal is the be there at 7. Not 6:55....not 7:05....but at 7........on the nose. I do it for my own self-respect. I could give a rat's behind what others think....

That isn't something taken lightly and you need to show her that its business. Get in, eat and get out so things will flow smoothly. Now vacation is another story. |

My wife is always ready to go on time, if you ask her. Always.
This is the conversation we have at least 3 times a week. "Are you ready to go Honey?" "Yes. I just have to finish my hair and do my makeup and figure out what shoes to wear." "That would be a 'No' then, right'?" "Huh?"

G'day!

I do business with a local company who sells bag and bulk landscape materials...such as mulch, rock, etc.
Sometimes I get materials delivered and when they say it will get there at such and such time....it is there at that exact time right on the button....every time. Periodically I will let them know they can deliver earlier if it works out for them...and in those cases they will call me and touch base before coming. But of all the suppliers I have dealt with over the years....they really set the bar! Bloody inspirational!

Thank you.
FIL is stupid early as a rule. 45 minutes. Every time. Christmas dinner or I am looking at his muffler. "Don't worry about me. I'll just hang out."

I used to be pretty early, but now that I have a foster dog, I don't want him to sit at home any longer than necessary, so I cut it close, but am usually on time.
I had a friend that would easily be an hour late for everything. I read or heard somewhere a line that said, "how long would you wait for the Queen of England?" I figured about ten minutes and my friend isn't the Queen, but I still gave him ten minutes- if he wasn't there, neither was I, I would leave- he would call pissed off, he got better.

I get to where I'm going 10-15 minutes early and wait, especially when meeting a homeowner, then knock on the door at the exact time I'm expected.

I'm always on time. When I was still working I would show up at the shop 30-45 minutes before starting work.
One co-worker was always late dating back to high school. He once brought a note from high school (which he kept) to prove it. His motto was work doesn't start till I get there.

To me it has nothing to do with control or passive aggressiveness. As much as I try, I am usually 10 minutes late wherever I go. I always start out with the best intentions, but it never fails...90% of the time, I'm 10 minutes late for whatever reason...

If a woman needs over an hour to "look pretty" then here's a news flash: she ain't pretty.
I start my meetings on time - I don't wait and I don't back up if someone comes in late. Too damn bad, read the minutes or show up on time like the other twenty people in the room. Lateness bothers me because it's rude and inconsiderate - two things that are already in far-too-abundant supply in the world anyway. I never understood the point of setting clocks ahead - all you end up doing is mentally adjusting for it anyway. Mine are always set right on the dot, just as they should be. They tell the brutal truth - you're going to make it or you're not. No fudging, no BS. Equally bad (or worse) is people who drag meetings on (and on, and on, and on - usually just to hear themselves talk). Timeliness means starting on time AND ending on time. If people aren't going to facilitate that, I'll cut them off and end things for them. My time is more valuable than to be tied up by people like that and so is that of most others. It's just simple rudeness and it sometimes takes being a bit abrupt and rude to cut it off and put people like that in their place (what are they going to do? Complain that I'm being rude to them? Go ahead, see how that works out for ya').
