love thy neighbor?
so I roll out this AM for my saturdee underwear stroll around the yard and find the neighbor has a new dish! I was a bit taken a back as I was not consulted on this install and besides it encroaching into my yard I can see it from my couch!! I have not gone over to speak with them yet.
here-- http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464473682.jpg looking for creative ways to discourage this new yard fixture. cutting the cable would be too easy and lowering myself to their level... im considering going full Richard by setting up my 8' ladder with plywood affixed to obstruct the signal. will raise my new yard art just at tip off of the warriors tonite. I was considering a note sharing my displeasure, but I think the ladder 2-3' from the fence blocking the dish says more than any note could..... thoughts? t |
Ummm, why not take a couple of beers over and have a friendly chat?
|
|
Do you own the fence?
|
Train that plant to cover the dish. In the meantime, just a slight tap is going to change the azimuth enough so that they won't be getting a signal, (if Charles F's suggestion doesn't bring satisfaction)
|
That was my suggestion lol.

Something that would shake the fence at just the right time would be very satisfying.
|
so I talked to my pops and he said plywood would not obstruct the signal effectively. I countered with why do trees obstruct most dishes? him, being an electrical engineer shared the fact that moisture in a tree creates a more dense obstructive effect. I trust him on that.
he stated I would have to cover the plywood in aluminum foil to be effective suggesting I simply cover the portion in my yard with foil to block the signal. at that point the note came back into play--- "dear neighbor, this dish location does not work for my. please relocate this equipment from my property at your earliest opportunity. gratefully, your neighbor." the note says http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464477353.jpg |
^ That's funny - but it's not gonna last, human nature being what it is, nothing will keep the transgressors from removing that stuff. I think just a little shove with a 2x2 to push it out of azimuth alignment, repeat as necessary and that dish will be moving tout de suite
|
I'd rather have him for a neighbor than you.
IOW I believe you are over-reacting. The satellite company installs the dish, not him. They figure where to put it, not him. Maybe that was the best or only place to put it? Maybe there is an alternate place that can be determined by a friendly chat with him, and then between him and the dish company? |
Good idea to keep bumping it, or do you own a sawzall, just trim off the piece that hangs over.
|
|
What would you have recommended if he had asked beforehand?
What are the alternatives acceptable to you? |

2) From the picture, it looks like dish could be lowered, in their yard, on a pole to get the same line of site to the satellite. Better than my neighor, who's unleashed, unfenced dog just jumped on my wife's driver's door, leaving big scratches. |
On second thought:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464478576.jpg Is a little tight. Perhaps it needs loosening. Just a tad. Looks like a 1/2 inch or something. |

I have yet to reach out to dish, but yes, I agree, dish is the most to blame here. but again, the unit could not be mounted on the house due to the overgrown vegetation that has been an issue with myself n adjacent neighbor who's yard the bushes consume more so than mine. im a great, longtime resident in this hood who is very considerate to my neighbors most of which are friends of mine. if I'd been asked about placing the dish there id have said no. otherwise this has been a fun way to kill an afternoon of giants in denver while waiting for the warrior/thunder game to start. you Sammy tolerant? that's rich. t |

THAT RULES! it's a common fence and the foil covered portion of the dish is in my yard. im PM leaky for a photoshop favor.... |
No need to watch the game Toby. Warriors gunna lose. ;)

Your neighbor is an A-hole and needs to be taken down. How dare he. Who the Hell does he think he is??!!
