I'm holding out for the E36 market to take off.

The E36 is a great car but BMW made a lot of them. Maybe in another 10 years?

Should have used green font, I'm not holding out much hope.

Maybe the Euro spec E36 M3's. Totally different animal than what was sold here.

I don't know the prices seem to be creeping up, there are a whole lot of cheap e36ms available that are crappy, but the nice ones are starting to appreciate.

It wasn't that long ago that e30s were considered plentiful and disposable, to some they still are.

So... you're saying the running '90 325is coupe I've been offered for $1200 is a buy?

True, but try finding an original low mileage manual trans e36 M3, 325is or 328is. Not so easy.

I found a high mileage, rust free, very clean '95 a few years ago for under $6k. I actually cannot believe how clean this car is considering the miles. But I have forever altered it with a big V8.

It seems like the early E30s still aren't worth much. Like the M10 318i and the 325e. 89+ seem to do a lot better.

I have a gray market '84 with that I bought in 2006 for around $1,800. I guess I'll keep it for a while.

While I do think it's harder to find unmolested manuals and they aren't $3000 cars anymore, $5k to $6k still gets you a decent car
$9k gets you top of the market, like a 2 owner E30 with 40k miles.

Wide variety. You can get s decent 84 3.2 for 35-40 and a decent 91-92 c2 for 50-60 nowadays.

A manual coupe 325is in clean unmolested shape with low miles is way more than 9200

Maybe the M3s are going up in value. I'm not sure the regular 3 series are catching up. If they are, I just saw two in the neighborhood that will probably go for cheap...

Regular e30s were good cars but they are just not that special. Good utility BMWs.

Here's one at 28k: 90 BMW M3 - 5 speed manual - 145k miles - Clean title

I'm not as enthusiastic for these as 911s, though I wouldn't mind owning one.

That's a clean E30 you have there. Nice find. I've owned two E30s (325iX and a 325i). These cars are over-engineered and built like tanks, handle well, and are cheap to maintain. I'll always have a soft spot for these cars. I occasionally fantasy shop for E30s with an S52 conversion. That would be the ultimate combo for a street car.

I've also owned 4 E36 M3s. I love these cars. Best bang for the buck for what you get and a blast to drive. I'm not surprised to see prices climbing for clean examples. If I had the space I would have an E30 325iS and E36 M3 as part of the stable. Awesome cars.

My 325i

325iX

One of my favorite E36 M3s
