Punk needs to pay up. Now it's more a matter of principle and leaving the scene of an accident is serious business. Hmm, even more serious if an injury was involved. Are you sure the little dipstick didn't run over your foot or graze your knee as he was fleeing the scene? It is irritating that this azznapkin is still at large.

Sorry about your car. It's only unsafe at any speed. Sitting still it is simply a silent menace.

mreid has a point. It wasn't a big deal when he hit you (hey, it's a car and it's fixable). But it certainly is a big deal now that he has fled from the scene of an accident. Two, actually. And that certainly looks like more than $500 to fix.

Hey, you might get a free paint job out of this ! ;-) Nice car, damage doesn't look too bad...

The damage isn't too bad. I've certainly seen (and done) worse. I'm implementing the Tony Soprano business model when it comes to it being repaired. I funnel a lot of work to my neighbor so as a token of his appreciation he'll be happy to do the repair. As for the paint. I'll be doing a vinyl wrap as soon as the artwork is completed and that too will be provided by a couple sponsors.
So there really is no need for me to get worked up by this. I can only hope that the kid loses a couple nights sleep waiting for some knock on his door that probably isn't coming.

Cops won't do crap about it.
I just went through this, except that instead of hitting another car, the dude was beating his girlfriend like a rented mule, and instead of hitting my car, he hit ME with his pickup as he fled.

Not only did a I have a full description, and a plate, AND paperwork that he tossed out the window for his recently paroled 18 year old girlfriend that he was beating, AND footage from the gas station where it all happened...AND went to the police station and personally made a report and gave them all of that after 911 ignored me...

And nothing happened. She won't press charges, and despite the fact that I said I WOULD, they never called me back after the grand jury presumably dropped everything.

Why would they bother, he only hit a person with his truck then fled with a (now) felon, who was on parole and part of that was "don't hang around with a$holes"...

Faith in mankind restored (maybe just a little though). Seems as though the kids conscience got the better of him and he's reached out to make things better. He explained how he freaked out after the event when he realized he didn't have any of his insurance info with him so he went home to get it. I think it's more like he was more afraid of what might happen if he didn't own up to it.
So it looks like I'll find a body shop around Sunland and Glenoaks and see if I can get my car repaired. Sure hope they can match the paint.

That's good. I could see myself doing exactly this as a kid. (Freaking out, leaving the scene, and second-guessing that decision.) As an adult, I know better. Kids do stupid things, it's good that this one did the right thing...eventually.

Nice. Good on the kid for (finally) coming to his senses. Curious though... how/where did he find you again?

I stopped at the bank after work today. Just to see exactly what the procedure was to see the camera footage. The guy I talked to, lets call him Gerry, explained the process but said that the kid had been in earlier and made contact with the teller who owned the other car involved. Gerry said he'd get in touch with the teller ( she wasn't there at the moment) and see if she was comfortable with sharing the kids information with me. I left my number with him and left. About ten minutes later Gerry called and gave me his name and number. I called the kid and he apologized profusely.

Are you sure it wasn't Johnny (football) Manzeil ? who also just reported a hit and run ?

mreid 06-23-2016 06:28 AM

Nah, Manzeil would have leaned out the window and punched you in the face while running over your foot and yelling obscenities. Then he would have lit up a doobie, pulled over and blamed it on his team mates.

Steve Carlton 06-23-2016 07:06 AM

Well, that's good news! I was worried that Anton had done it.

Chocaholic 06-23-2016 07:20 AM

Guessing the kid may have been influenced by a parent when they saw his car. Either way, glad it worked out.

I used to live up in a canyon there in Sun Valley. I used to know a guy who was pretty good with Corvairs and some other types of air-cooled cars there.

Gimme a couple of days and I'll see if my retired brain can come up with the name.

Michael

I sometimes have trouble remembering his name too but if you were to stop by I bet he'd be happy to fire up the BBQ and toss back a couple cold ones with ya.

How ya doing Michael??

fingpilot 06-23-2016 07:13 PM

Doing great.

Am in Alabama Suh.

We'd have already dealt with a criminal like this kid. Showed him the concept of consequences in a society of laws. Harbor Freight has a sale here and you get a truckers' chain free with every purchase.

I love it here.
