My HP all in one scanner, printer, fax, ETC will scan and the software will show the image on the screen and ask me if it is okay or do I want to adjust the settings? So far I have never had to and I think the scanner runs the picture once to see what it is then again (other direction) to get the actual image. So far I have scanned black and white prints of me and the family taken in 1950 and color prints taken in the 1970's and all came out just like the originals except larger.
