the Osh Kosh EAA airshow

Just back after 8 days there. OK, here is the next big purchase...

it was said that 10,000 flew in and camped under wing, and 500,000 attended.

and you never know who you will see...

Was there in '95. and was suitably impressed with whole experience.
Got talking to a 336 pilot who said the usual thing, oh you're English, do you know so & so?
And remarkably I had been helping to push his Jet Provost out of his hangar the previous week(which just goes to show the relatively small size of the UK GA community)

Tell me you didn't follow Ford around and snap photos of him w/o asking like a paparazzi. That's sure what it looks like.

He always attends and it's really not that kind of place, (usually). Nice jet.

I see you made it out to the beer tent.... My wife and I ate there Monday and Tuesday night. I did not run into Ford during my time there however. The girls serving beer at the bar sure were making good tips.

Actually I was really busy and didn't even see him. A few friends shared these with me.

Oshkosh, of course, caters to the EAA crowd.
The jet is a little out of place...LOL
Kind of see everything under the sun there, though, don't you?

Agree about the main focus.

Its more like the Wisconsin state fair now...way too commercial. They lost the essence of EAA and replaced it with roasted corn and steak knives...

FYI, its Oshkosh

Missed it this year but noticed a few vintage and homebuilts flying over. Has to be one of the all time best aviation event.

What were some of the highlights or premiered flight demonstrations?

Going back some years, some of the highlights I recall - being right up close seeing the Concord takeoff. Numerous WW2 formations.... incredible amount of them up in the air at the same time. Harrier demonstrations, 747 repeat touch and go, watching the Bede BD5 and then hanging out with the balzy pilot, an evening listening and to meet Jimmy Doolittle.

The roasted corn has been at the beer tent since way back. The beer tent is a privately run deal just off the EAA property. While I agree it is very commercialized, it is still the most awesome event of its kind in the world.

This was the busiest I have seen it in many years and possibly ever. On Tuesday they were turning away even classic arrivals and the campground was nearly full out to the highway.

Our chief pilot went. I asked him if he saw Ford and he replied "No, be we saw Ford's open beaver" which sounds like the line from Naked Gun.

I went for the first time a couple of years ago with my girlfriend and her dad. They flew up in his Cub, I drove. (She gave me her seat for the flight home.) I thought it was terrific as hell. I was going to go last Saturday but, at the last minute, didn't (largely due to oversleeping) and regret it, as I would have gotten to see a friend who flew up from Dallas and who I had not seen in years.
