So If I sell the 911 can \I still hang here or do I have to buy a Mustang right away

Going to pick up the 911 from it's heated winter storage today and drive it while I finish the detailing before listing it for sale. Need to know the rules for when it's gone. Can I hang with only having 914's or do I need to buy a Mustang right away?

:D

herr_oberst 07-31-2016 05:25 AM

Start with an overpriced pool stick, work your way down to a Mustang.

(Make sure you have all the particulars of the ownership and sale of the 911 written down somewhere. You'll need to be able to copy and paste the information in that file quickly into any thread where you might think someone may have the slightest interest in your experience with 911 ownership, Mustang ownership, billiards, slow driving, emirates, cops, forks in the road...........)

masraum 07-31-2016 05:37 AM

First you've gotta tell us how 911s aren't all that great and how 911 enthusiasts are snobs and suck. Then you should pick some other vehicle like a camaro and tell us how it's better than any Porsche and post lots of pics.

:D

Nickshu 07-31-2016 05:37 AM

Sold my 911 in 2013 and I still hang here all the time. Like the Hagerty ad says...."no matter what car you have, there will always be your next dream car."

I'll have another Porsche someday, I'm just busy playing with a Lotus right now.

recycled sixtie 07-31-2016 05:39 AM

Your board credibility may be diminished if you sell your 911. However as long as you have something with four wheels and a motor and a wrench in your back pocket then acceptance is not a problem. Add extra points if you have the cojones of Motion and the eccentricities of Tabs.......:)

Craig T 07-31-2016 05:50 AM

I posted a poll on this about a year ago when I sold my 911 hot rod and was Porscheless for a while (10 year-old Cayennes with 180,000 miles don't count). I think about half OT Pelicans sold their 911s and stayed around. This is just on hellava magnetic group.

I was considering a Z06 until I went to a Speedventures track event and spoke with a few owners. :o! I thought they were all burning oil on the track...but it was their cigarette ashes blowing out of their ashtrays at speed. I wondered why they all stuck basketballs under their tee shirts.

mreid 07-31-2016 06:11 AM

It's a three step process:

1. Endure ridicule for selling the 911.
2. Endure ridicule for buying a mustang.
3. Endure ridicule for most any comment that differs from someone else's.

Noah930 07-31-2016 06:30 AM

Don't forget to sell your 911 for way less than market value and continue to remind us of so ad nauseum.

ckelly78z 07-31-2016 07:19 AM

Earlier this Spring I bought a triple black 2004 Mustang GT convertible....yea, there are plenty of them on the road, and yea, every 17 Y.O. kid aspires to own one, and yea, it's basic transportation compared to most Porsches. I currently have my 1985.5 944 for sale because I'm half afraid of driving it as a DD, too many idiots in parking lots, too much expensive repairs, and too little enjoyment compared to a V8 convertible.

Let the bashing begin, it won't change my mind.

Yes yes... But first, I think that you have to start with a very rare and pristine 911 that has R-Gruppers drooling and positioning to acquire. ...for below market value. buddy, ol chum...

Who give a rats ass what others think. I took my newly aqquired Mach 1 to cars and coffee yesterday, and had a wonderful time. It feels like people are a lot warmer towards Mustangs. They're common, so everyone has a connection to them, be it a brother, or dad's old mustang he had in the 1960's.

I took if for a drive, and got on it hard a few times (well, maybe more than few....). Its a nice feeling knowing that the engine could literally grenade on you, and you would be back on the road for less than $5k. The downside? The suspension is truly horrible.

And OF COURSE I need to post a few photos of my baby :D

Yes.
Get an early classic Mustang & $pend a bunch of money trying to make it a good driver.
When that pisses you off , being unsuccessful, sell it at a loss & just buy a decent driver.
It's really quite simple (if expensive).

DanielDudley 07-31-2016 07:46 AM

GWN7 ? Oh, I think I heard of him... ;)

Weird seeing all of those cars broken down with the hoods up... Are you sure it was Cars and Coffee and not an auto wrecker?

Shaun @ Tru6 07-31-2016 08:13 AM

Who will you hit first when you get a Mustang?

CMDR Perry 07-31-2016 08:21 AM

Mustang handling issues

HD you just need a Maximum Motorsports R&T suspension kit and some better wheels and tires. It will take that Mach 1 to a new level. DP

wdfifteen 07-31-2016 09:25 AM

Personally I don't think you belong here unless you own a 356. A 912 or 914 isn't bad. But SIX cylinders? That's just being ostentatious.

Already looking at my options. I guess 'horrible' is unfair. Its suspension that was setup with the knowledge that many people buying the car would be using as a daily driver on bad mid-western roads. It's quite comfortable, but it doesn't inspire much confidence.

Given that the car has a live rear axel, my aspiration in the handling department are pretty low.

Actually, even with the live rear axle, they can be made to handle damned well. Just ask any P car driver who has been shown up by a boss 302.
The Mach 1 was set stock more with the drag racer in mind, but there are many goodies available in the aftermarket..

That's the first question Frank Barrett asked when I emailed that I'd bought a Mustang. Now, about that porcupine joke...

PPOT gets right of first refusal on your 911.

Tobra 07-31-2016 03:16 PM

as long as you are making rubber bits for 914s in your kitchen, all is well

Nice targa. Couldn't you just pawn some of your gold chains and get a Mustang with that?
Then you can keep the 911 and also have something for your daughter to drive. :)

Yes - If:

1) you post endlessly about "SPOONS"
2) you post endlessly about "Buffets"
3) You get pissed off and threaten to leave; but DON"T
4) You claim to be a SNIPER
5) You ask weekly how to adjust your valves
6) When someone asks a fuel related question, you tell them to change spark plugs.
7) U change your screen name from "JERK OFF" TO "JERK U OFF"
8) U use Wayne's forum to bad mouth him about a shipping issue and tell where you can buy the parts cheaper...
9) U Get over-excited about the "Roof-Girl" that shows up....

Will it do 165 mph with the roof panel off? Will it turn 8,500 r.p.m.?

Either way, you gotta drop that front suspension about an inch and a half... I know you are in Winnipeg but still...

Of course it will. It's a 69 E with that huge 140 hp engine. ROW car so the speedo is in kph so it will hit 165 all day long. As to hitting 8,500 RPM the motor only has 110,000 km (65,000 miles) so it could hit 8,500 at least once. Maybe even twice.

A couple police officers who were guarding the house next door after it caught on fire last year were surprised when I told them the Honda parked behind it had more hp. The young cop (in his 20's) said "It looks so fast" :)

it's a targa so you were never really truly accepted as a peer here anyways.

admitting to putting a duck on a targa has put your pelican account at risk. you'll be lucky if you get to post in PARF after this.

now repeat after me "I got tired of people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing".
