So far about half of what he has claimed to do has either been accomplished, failed or started. Having looked through their criteria for what is considered a fail, many aren't really failures, but slight shortcomings. I emailed them requesting they add a third category for things that fall in-between. If you don't look to see what our government is doing, you won't find anything. In no way do I think he is the saviour, but he is a hell of a lot better than Harper. Id prefer a leader with more transparency, what seems like a good heart and a love for Canada. Harper pushed his own agenda and used trickery and deceit to get what he wanted done. He had to go. |

At least he has a shirt on this time.
... And good hair ... The jury hasn't heard all the evidence yet but I truly hope he does well for Canada's sake. |
Probably headed to Canadian PARF soon. Sorry Yellowperil. I am neither a liberal or conservative, have voted for both in the past. Didn't vote for this one though. I hope he succeeds but I have not and don't see it happening. We and mostly our children are going to pay for his blundering(spending) for years.

I didn't hear the Canadian conservatives crying when Harper was running a deficit. All of a sudden Trudeau does and it is the end of the world. Harper manufactured a surplus for political perception during an election year. 24 Sussex Drive is a **** hole. Nobody wants to spend the money to fix it because people complain. Ambassadors and guests to our country can't even stay in our "white house" because it is such a dump. Yes it will cost a few million up front, but we are paying hundreds of thousands a year in trying to keep a sinking ship afloat. My point is, sometimes you have to spend money to make money. Right now an investment has been made. In a few years, we have to look back at that investment, and if the outcome is positive, we express our support, if negative, gimme a better prime minster from either party, doesn't matter. I'm like you. Neither liberal nor conservative. Not saying you are this, but I don't like when people always see a glass as half empty just because it isn't "their" political party. Nobody seems to be able to look at things objectively. Everyone has to pick a side. :( |

Growth in Canada these days is arguably slow, but certainly not at crisis levels, or even recession levels. I think it's harder to justify deficit spending in a climate like this... Wouldn't it be nice to keep some dry powder in case things actually deteriorate substantially? |

The concern with Trudeau is that his mindset appears to be one of tax and spend liberalism, particularly riding on a populist coat-tail of "tax those rich buggers to give to the rest of us". The man is not particularly bright and does not have a terribly strong team around him, so being able to put a deficit spending programme together that includes when and how to pay it back is likely beyond their capabilities. I note that it was a Liberal that slayed the deficit of the '90's, but only when Canada had its near to death experience financially. I just wish Trudeau was up front about the need to invest, perhaps at a deficit level but with a mind set to stop the deficit spending as soon as possible. Plus the endless photo ops that the media expounds only trivializes whatever talent the lad actually has.... Dennis |
I'd be smiling and wearing the same thing if I was going to see the last Hip show
