Avoid 1-95 in central NC for now
3 mile evacuation.
Johnston County Schools delay, residents evacuate after crash closes I-95 :: WRAL.com Residents who live within a two or three-mile radius of exit 95 on I-95 were advised by authorities to remain in their homes, close and lock all exterior windows and doors and turn off air conditioning systems. Just checked Google maps. South bound side is still in trouble. North bound looks fine.
Thanks, John!

Get off my lawn!
|
That is the type of thing I think about on my long road trips. All my luggage is in the car and the road is shut down and I can't get to my car. It would be a bad thing. The good news is that the odds are very long of it happening to a particular group. It did just happen to some of the other drivers on that road. All because some fool was likely texting or not paying attention to driving.
This year as we left Vermont on the way home our route was going to be southern. Then the weather alerts started and they flooding in the areas of our trip. I decided that driving into a flood area would be really stupid. We canceled the room reservation and changed out route. Erie, PA was a nice town and I got to see another one of the great lakes. I have been to three of the 5!

Yikes !!
A 2010 Kenworth semi, driven by Alex Omar Lopez, 44, of Miami, rear-ended a stopped RV, killing Christopher Michael Porter, 36, of Pell City, Ala., and Mitchell Alan Vandenburg, 30, of Loveland, Colo. A third person in the RV, Adam Charles Nurre, 35, of Austin, Texas, was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The RV then rear-ended the moving truck, which was also hit by the semi. The semi also hit a passenger vehicle, which then rear-ended another tractor trailer, authorities said. No injuries were reported in any of those vehicles.

I went through there, north bound, about 4PM. South bound traffic was being diverted and backed up on I-95 about 1.5 miles. At the accident site, the road itself was being resurfaced and it looked like lots of chalky dust all over the place. I was doing about 70 and could really only glace over.
