At least it was not for his clear singing voice.
He is a good writer, he can't sing.

I liked Dylan, I looked up the award because I couldn't think of anything recent, it's sort of a lifetime award. The most recent song I saw was from 1985. I think the first time I saw him was some hootenanny thing on TV in 63 or 64. I only saw him one time in person, second row at a concert.

Bob should be America's Poet Laureate. The voice of "our" generation. I was a young man in the sixties, and Bob's music was the first that really spoke to me.

Read his autobiography if you're a fan. It's fantastic. A great Minnesotan.

In the 70's I had a high school teacher who would play (forced us to listen to) Dylan once a week in class. I didn't appreciate his singing voice then and I still don't today. Not to take away from his obvious talents combining words and music. Agree he very much deserves the award.

Well, the Literature prize now has far more credibility than the Peace prize. Congrats Mr. Zimmerman. Well deserved.

To add some Porsche content I'll need to take a quick ride down to road to The Big Pink and have my SC pose in front of it. He was a local fixture around town for quite a while. Never cared for his performances but the lyrics and music deserve this recognition.

Being from Sweden I am thrilled this prize is finally awarded an individual that I have actually heard of. Outside the small inner circle of Culture elite the yearly announcement was Always a good laugh. Not least since there for several years turned up a dude at the announcement, standing behind all the other press and media. As soon as the name of the person awarded was announced - very formal and stiff upper lip, he used to shout - "Finally!!" As if the author was someone well known and appreciated among the masses when in reality it was yet another complete stranger to most people.
Eventually he was banned from the announcement cermony. ![]()

While there seem to be a few folks on the NYT editorial staff that seem to be having a difficult time with this ("he's already received many awards, and has now taken this one away from truly deserving, talented, otherwise obscure writers," etc.), I think that the consensus wins...that yes - B.D. deserves this!

The lyrics in the video are different from the original. Dylan evidently changed the lyrics depending. Still, the lyrics always grabbed me:
We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view, Tangled up in blue. Interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangled_Up_in_Blue

I think well deserved, also! Talk about a body of work! It's an insane legacy! It's amazing how many of his original songs have been covered, and the reaction one gets (especially from a "millennial") when you mention, "oh hey, that's a Dylan song..."
As for Tangled Up In Blue, it has always been one of my favorites. I know it is one of his more popular songs, but great nonetheless. The way the song is constructed in how it flows as the story unfolds, never ceases to amaze me...MASTER CLASS!
