I was just ogling their photo gallery, too. If I had a lot more money, I'd sure consider turning my 964 into a Singer. :)

Call me nuts, but I'd take either of these two over a Singer any day.

"IF" I was in the market Ruf would be getting a big check from me.

But I do like the Singer cars!

Would Porsche ever dare introduce an air cooled 911 again? (I allowed to dream)

I want a most excellent time capsule to drive on sunny weekends with my redhead wife who looks far better than I do. First world old man issues yes. Sadly there is no freaking chance my bank account will facilitate the Singer car. No worries...I do have the amazing redhead :)

This rely/post means nothing without a picture Java ;)

^^^ Have you not seen the chest thread?

So what is the base cost of a Singer? Since it uses a 964 chassis as its basis, I guess you could buy one in marginal condition since they completely rebuild it.

wayner 01-14-2017 09:33 AM

I have a real 1973. It now looks like an RSR, having added many of the same things that the factory did when they built their race cars.

Singer reimagines newer cars using some old car styling cues.

People no longer know what my car is. A 73 RSR is an obscure model
You have no idea how many times young guys ask me if it is a singer
( if they looked closer at the fit and finish as well as some of the more obvious styling cues they would know it's not)

My point is that as these old cars fade into obscurity, Singer has brought the styling of these old cars back into consciousness. I think they have done a wonderful job marketing their brand.

pavulon 01-14-2017 09:59 AM

This. Saw them in person at Road America as well.

There were a few Singers lurking around at Rennsport and I have to say they were exquisite. Like nearly Rolex level of precision. Everything is just spot on. I never got it until I saw one. If I had unlimited funds I'd have to have one.

Couldn't agree more. Singer's attention to detail is absolutely amazing. Supurb marketing with the price guaranteeing that they will be owned only by a few. Wish I had the money to buy one. I wouldn't of course, but 1/2 million more in my portfolio would be nice. ;)

I still remember the paranoia attached to driving an irreplaceable and valuable car. I have no desire to feel that again.

speeder 01-14-2017 08:55 PM

If you hadn't been so easily rattled by a few people wanting to buy your car and dumped it, you'd be about Singer $$ up right now.

It wasn't money I was after when I sold the 911S, Denis. Read my post again...I wouldn't buy a Singer. Actually, adding $500,000 to my portfolio wouldn't change my lifestyle. Nowhere I want to travel to, don't want a bigger home, have everything I need. More stuff just means more to worry about. I'm content with my low key life.

Singers are like the pin up babes in the chest thread. Lovely to look at, but no desire on my part to possess.

Nobody rattled me. To say they disgusted me is a more descriptive phrase.

speeder 01-15-2017 08:54 AM

I don't want a Singer either. There are plenty of cars I could afford to buy and do not, (including an early 911S), I just don't see the cost:value ratio in them.

Forgive me for describing you as rattled. When someone is affected by something to the extent that they are still talking about it years later, I'd call that rattled. If I talk about something that happened more than once, it rattled me.

Funny, I just bought a fairly new used car and the dealer described it as a theft recovery.
Later he said they get a lot of "container cars."

Im not concerned about the car, I'm concerned that so many late model vehicles are ending up in containers and shipped out of the country!

This ship apparently had been turned back from its destination and arrived in Canada with the containers still full and the police had a hayday.

As of last week, I am now a bit rattled.
Since I do not live in California where I hear about all of the vintage 911 thefts occurring, I was never concerned about mine way out here, but now I'm a bit rattled. If they steal modern vehicles with modern security systems, I'm now a bit concerned about my less secure vintage car.

There's very few things that will stop a willing thief with a tow truck.

speeder 01-15-2017 11:03 AM

Wayne, every single person I know who was DD'ing an air-cooled 911 in Los Angeles in the last 5 years has had their car stolen and not recovered. Every. Single. One. Of. Them.

This is one of the reasons, (but not the only one), why I sold my 964 to Singer. I have a very secure warehouse to lock up stuff in but it would have had to stay there at all times when not being driven.

wayner 01-15-2017 11:05 AM

But that it is so prevalent is what has me spooked.

That's a very disturbing statement. I drive my SC frequently and rarely give it a second thought. Of course I'm not in SoCal either.

I'm in SoCal. I drove my green long-hood hot rod everywhere for almost two years, coffee shops, restaurants, golf course, even trips up the coast and to Palm Springs. Left outside hotels countless times...zero theft attempts (And it sold for six-figures last year). I put 15,000 miles on my 993TT around LA and and Ventura. It was thrashed on the track , but never stolen.

As a matter of fact, I'm been in the OC or Santa Barbara PCA chapters for 24 years, and POC for since 98, and I don't know one single individual who has had their Porsche stolen.

Up until 5 years ago, (or whenever it was), I could have said the same thing. Old Porsches did not get stolen, at least not since the '80s in L.A.

I'm not exaggerating in the least when I say every single one I know of in the last 5 years. Every one was either parked on the street overnight or in a carport, though.

aigel 01-15-2017 01:19 PM

I imagine parts are so expensive now that stripping a 911 down is very very good money.

I have to leave my garage closed these days. There are people stopping and wanting to buy the 993 all the time. Usually they are some local neighborhood dreamers hoping I'll sell it to them for $15k, so harmless, but it does make you wonder. Nobody gave a **** 10 years ago when I got the car. It was just a used porsh.
