Essential Oil--Some Success
After 3 weeks using Heli-Chyrsum and Juniper Berry at night I have reduced my 4 year battle with right ear ringing enough to at least mention the experience. Suggested by a family member I was very negative about the potential so don't believe there is any placebo effect. This stuff is VERY expensive as well so I went in to this with a "it won't work" attitude. I'm sure this could all change today and may not work at all for others but I would say the noise level is down about 70%. After selling the P car several years ago motorcycling fills the void so there has been quite a concern that this would elevate the issue despite the 100% adherence to ear plugs. Application is a drop of each on a cotton ball inserted in the ear overnight---usually wake up after a few hours and remove it.
Trying to find a cheaper product than the DoTerra brand and internet discussion is worse than oil forum posts so possibly someone has already figured this one out--a small 5ml container is $75 bucks. TG Littleton, Co |

Timely for me to come across this thread right now.
I been bothered with the constant cicadas going off in my head for a few months now. Didn't notice at first cause I'm living under elm trees here in Az, which are full of the critters in the season. So I was getting used to the noise. Then I realized they were out of season thru the winter, but I continued to hear them in my head, even with my ears covered. I just started taking Lipoflavonoid, hope it will help. I doubt the VA would cover the sophisticated hearing aids that Alex is using. Tho I'm sure My time in tanks did the ears no good. Use of ear protection?
I was able to hear all of the test frequencies that were listed except for the 100 Hz, but that might more a function of the speaker response. I know I have some loss at 11,000 Hz, but I am 56, worked at a shipyard and with power tools, lawn mowers, etc. Loud music probably affected some of the loss as well. I use soft foam earplugs religiously to hopefully preserve what I have.

Thought I'd revive this thread. There was a thread where everybody was discussing tinnitus. Some suggested Lipo Flavonoid, and lots said they would try it. As usual, nobody (at least that I noticed) got back with comments about how it worked. I just tried the method above, which I didn't see before, of thumping the back of my head. Didn't seem to make a difference so far. However I did start taking the Lipo Flavonoid (from Costco) a few months ago. I was skeptical and followed the prescribed method. I can say it did cut down on my tinnitus and made it more of a background thing than before. It's not totally gone but it's noticeably better. Anybody else try it & want to comment?

It ain't exactly cheap for a supplement. You are supposed to take 6 pills/day for the first month & 3/day after that. The bottles cost $20+ for 100.

This is what I have been told too. I almost need white noise to mask the ringing in my ear. Quiet is loud for me.

Alex do you have an update?
I just started getting it in my right ear, haven't gone to the doc yet, but when it's quiet it's super annoying. Mine sounds like a old TV with a tube going out. Surprising there is no "cure" yet.

A lot can be said for "I just don't care."
I'm only just learning that skill late in life. I intend to apply it to most facets of life. |

I've had bilateral tinnitus for most of my life. Hearing tests show that my hearing is quite acute for my age, with a typical high-frequency drop off.
I've repeatedly asked about hearing aids or other treatments for the tinnitus and the answer is always along the lines of "...well, we don't really know what causes that and a hearing aid is at best a masking device - one that you don't need because loud noises likely will make it worse, so it will do more harm than good." However, for the last month or so I've had a loud vascular bruit in my left ear that started as significant asymmetrical pulsatile tinnitus 24/7. Based on tests so far, this is likely caused by a dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) requiring neurosurgery (for which I am anxiously awaiting insurance approval). I would love to have just my "normal" tinnitus back. Bottom line: "Regular" tinnitus appears to be something we have to live with and can control to some extent by avoiding loud sounds, but if it changes significantly one should se a doctor as soon as reasonably possible. dw1. Thanks for the info, very interesting.
I've read that tinnitus is often due to hearing loss at specific frequencies. Your brain can no longer hear at certain frequencies, so it is either trying to turn the volume at that frequency up to 11 to try to hear something, or it is having a hard time processing what it's receiving (or not) and therefore you get something odd. I've read that blind people don't live in darkness, at least, some of them. I assume the article that I'm remembering is about someone who had sight and then lost it. They said that the brain didn't know what to do with the lack of input and so created light and color that could be very distracting and made it hard for them to see. I know that if I close my eyes and try to look, I see colors and things. If I really rub my eyes, I see colors and patterns like a kaleidescope. I guess I'm just thankful that my tinnitus is a constant high pitched whistle. When this thread or another one like it came up before, and I checked out links that had simulations of the various tinnitus, some of the sounds heard would be much more distracting and irritating.

My ears are ringing loud as I read this thread.
My fault. I went to over 400 rock concerts in the late 60s...70s. It can be almost excruciatingly loud where I will just press my hands against the side of my head knowing that it doesn't help at all. At times the noise seems to be less for a little while but it comes raging back. I can barely understand things being said on tv and at restaurants I can't hear my wife sitting in front of me but I hear the loudmouth guy clear across the room. And like others I've been told nothing much can be done.

I hear locusts. I tell myself "I'm so lucky hearing the sounds of summer all year round." It works.

I do too.
And realistically, even though the locusts are pretty loud when I think about it, like now, when I'm concentrating on other stuff I don't even notice it. I do watch movies with CC on just to make sure I get all the dialogue.

And it's not just the loudmouth across the room, but any and all annoying sounds and voices are seemingly amplified in the brain and made even more annoying. Se la vie. I have no one to blame but myself.
